Other Options • Aim (Carfentrazone) • Postemergence control of pigweed, morninglory • Can be tank mixed with glyphosate • Use non-ionic surfactant (1 qt/100gal) or crop oil (1gal/100gal • Best results when weeds are small • $10.50/acre @ 2 oz/acre • Sandea (Halosulfuron) • Postemergence control of nutsedge, pigweed, wild radish • Can be applied to clover • Use only on trees established for at least 1 yr • Only 2 applications/yr • $32/acre @ 1 oz/acre

  7. Effect of N Application Method on ‘Stuart’ Pecan----Years 1 & 2 N rate for all treatments = 70 lbs/treated acre 28-0-0-5 Liquid Fertilizer) used for Injection and Herbicide Sprayer Applications; Cost = $500/ton Ammonium Nitrate used for broadcast band and broadcast applications; Cost = $495/ton

  8. Planting Depth • Better to plant too shallow than too deep • Highest lateral root even with or just under soil line

  9. Planting 30” 20” 10” Root length at planting Tree survival & growth depends on new root development, not the existing root system. New roots develop from the cut surface. More important in tighter soils. • Bareroot: prune root to 18 inches, remove lateral roots; prune top by 1/3-1/4. • Container: prune any wrapped roots at container bottom
