  1. Prayer We need to look at prayer with deeper thoughts. Prayer isn't just closing your eyes, folding your hands and speaking. Prayer is a much more meaningful part of religion. We all need to pray, God himself demands us to pray. Prayer is defined as an act of God, a god or another object of worship, such as in devotion, confession, praise, or thanksgiving. When most people pray, they just say the same prayer, like the Lord's prayer for example. Saying the same prayer isn't really such a bad thing, its more about the meaning and the time that you spend praying. Prayer shouldn't just be looked at as a routine or habit, but as more of a love poem to express ones self to God. Questions such as: why do we need to pray? What is this prayer?, and...show more content... The prayer that we pray should be the one that comes straight from our hearts. Prayer shouldn't be a job or a planned out speech. The prayer that God tells us we should pray is the Lords prayer. "Our Father in heaven hallowed be your name your kingdom come your will be done as earth as it is in heaven..." this prayer summarizes the main things that we should pray for, like telling God he is awesome, asking to provide, to forgive sins, and to prevent you from sinning, and that you will love God for ever and ever. God doesn't look at how good a prayer is, he doesn't judge by quantity either. A short prayer can be just as, if not, more meaningful as a large one. God looks at the thought and meaning of the prayer. A prayer that comes straight from the heart is what God appreciates. We need to pray for different things in life. God tells us what to pray for and what not to. He tells us to pray for everything that we need, spiritually and physically. We can pray to God for almost anything except for absurd wants. God tells us to pray to no one else but Him. When we pray God wants us to acknowledge to him our needs and misery, hiding nothing, he wants us to pray for everything on our minds coming from our hearts. We don't need to worry about our prayers being heard because Christ our Lord promises that they will be heard in his word. ...Get more content...

  3. Harriet Tubman: Biography Harriet Tubman was an important African American who ran away from slavery and guided runaway slaves to the north for years. During the Civil War she served as a scout, spy, and nurse for the United States Army. After that, she worked for the rights of blacks and women. Harriet Tubman was really named Araminta Ross, but she later adopted her mother's first name. She was one of eleven children of Harriet Greene and Benjamin Ross. She was five when she worked on a plantation in Dorchester County, Maryland. She was first a maid, and a children's nurse before she started working as a field hand when she was twelve. While she was thirteen, her master hit her head with a heavy weight. The hit put permanent...show more content... She decided to become a conductor on the infamous Underground Railroad, where people from the south would runaway to freedom in the north. She rescued her sister, her nieces, brother, and her parents. For about ten years, she made an estimated 19 trips into the slave states and helped about 300 slaves to the north. Tubman was in great danged while she was a conductor of the railroad, because southerners offered a huge reward for her capture. Tubman used great disguises, posing as old men and old women, to avoid suspicion when traveling in slave states. She carried sleeping powder to stop babies from crying and always had a gun just for protection. During the Civil War, which began in 1861, Tubman served as a nurse, scout, and spy for the Union Army in South Carolina. She helped cook and prepare food for the 54th Massachusetts Regiment, which was made up of all black soldiers and was better known as the Glory Brigade. She later received an award for her efforts, but no pay. Tubman spent years after the war in the north, where she continued to work on black rights, and she raised funds to assist former slaves with food, shelter, and education. She was not able to read or write, but in 1869 her friend Sarah Bradford helped her out with a biography, so that her achiecements could be an inspiration to others. In 1974, ...Get more content...

  4. Minecraft Essay Minecraft is a game where the player uses their imagination to shape the world around them using the resources they find. In the world everything is shaped like a block or a cube, this includes the trees, the dirt, the water, the clouds, even the sun, everything. This simple game hasn't even been released yet but has already sold over one million copies. Minecraft was created by one man, Markus "Notch" Persson, and this is his story. What makes the story of Minecraft so unique is that it was created by Notch and only Notch. Notch had a job before Minecraft, working on games for a company. He started to work on Minecraft in his free time but after a giant popularity spike he realized that it could be a hit, so he quit his job and began...show more content... The game sells around 10,000 copies per day. It has become a cultural phenomenon and on January 12, 2011 sales passed the one million mark, but they continued to rise. With popularity increasing, big name comics like "Penny Arcade" and "Hejibits" discovered the game too and published comic strips about minecraft, leading to even further sales. Minecraft makes $250,000 a day and continues to do so. On June 13, 2011, Minecraft passed 2.5 million sales. Today Mojang has 10 employees. Markus Persson, Jens Bergensten, Daniel Kaplan, Junkboy, Jakob Porser, Carl Manneh, Tobias Mollstam, Aron Neiminen, Daniel Frisk, and Daniel Rosenfeld. These few people make up the team that continues to work towards Minecraft's future. But with so few employees things take time. Even though the game has not been officially released, people who buy the game get a copy of what it is right now as the updates are being pushed out. With such success Mojang is the target of some heavy criticism from blogs, critics, and even their own fans. One speculation from fans is that Minecraft will be the company's 1 hit wonder. What happens if it truly is a one hit wonder? Will the company go down under? Will it be the end of Mojang? Will they join a publisher in order to stay afloat and lose their title of "indie?" Another speculation concerns Mojang's next game that has absolutely nothing to do with Minecraft, not even in the same genre. What if nobody likes the game? What ...Get more content...

  5. What it Means to be an American Essay What it Means to be an American What does it mean to be an American? In my eyes to be an American means to have privileges, rights, and freedom. America isn't perfect, but it is one of the only countries that have rights given to people of different diversities and gender. America does not have tremendous poverty. Instead we have choices given to us by the people who fought and died for the American people. Without George Washington and the other patriots who planted the first seed in the ground and help plant the American nation we live in now who knows what America would be like now. One of the most important and well–known facts about America is freedom. We are granted the freedom or choice in our...show more content... The people in America are given something that not everybody's given. A chance to be successful and to survive, and most countries are not given that chance. Being in America offers a lot to the people. One of the most important right America offers to America is the chance to be ourselves and to live in a place were small wars are not going on between states or communities. The U.S. gives us a chance to be fed. The people in America are not surrounded by a majority of starving people. Instead we have one of the most powerful economy in the world. America offers so much to the people who live in the U.S., but America will always be full of criticism, violence, and people who are offended by everything. America still seems to manage to be one of the world's best nations. The first Americans planned America to be as successful as it is, but for America to be more peaceful. America is not one of the most peaceful places, but it is not the most dangerous place to live. Even political parties lie and cheat each other. A lot of the Americans are greedy, because they take advantages of what America offers to their citizens. Even though America is not perfect I am still glad to live in the U.S. ...Get more content...

  6. Essay about the human brain In this paper one will learn the different parts of the brain and their functions. Although the brain isn't the largest organ of the human body it is the most complex and controlling organ. It is amazing how complicated the brain is. The brain controls every action within and out of your body. The brain has main areas that contain different areas that have specific functions. For instance the basal ganglia holds the lentiform and the caudate. The brain isn't just "THE BRAIN" it is actually a group of many parts. They help to inform the brain on the things going on with the human body. The brain is split in to two main parts, the left and the right hemisphere. The left hemisphere has about the same areas as the right hemisphere. The only...show more content... The corpus callosum is a bundle of nerves that connects the two hemispheres. The area that passes and processes information concerning touch, pain, temperature, and pressure on skin is the thalamus. The limbic system controls your behavior and emotions. It is involved in emotions such as fear, rage, pleasure, and sorrow. In the prefrontal area of the frontal lobe emotional traits are controlled. In the temporal lobe expressed behavior is controlled. The parietal lobe discriminates sensory. The occipital lobe is where visual interpretation takes place. Pons is a crossroad for nerves going up to the cortex, to the cerebellum and then down the spinal cord. The cortex is the outer gray area where thinking takes place. The olfactory cortex receives senses from the nose that it then sorts out. The area that identifies what we see by working out movements, colors, and shapes is the visual cortex. The area that receives taste senses is called gustatory cortex. The area responsible for analyzing data, performing memory functions, learning new information, forming thoughts, and making decisions is the cerebral cortex. The motor cortex is involved in muscle movement. The cerebellum is vital when carrying out complicated, skilled movements. It is much like a mini brain. If before you read this paper you thought the brain was a "one man machine" I'm sure your opinion has changed after reading his paper. It is amazing how god has created the brain to have so many areas ...Get more content...

The central bank is who funds the government, and sets in motion the investment in the public sector. This is the main thing she is telling in her thesis and also she has used many persuasive techniques like alliteration, point of view, emotional language, ironic situations etc very effectively. In today's world, most of the children are not aware of morally teachings. They are lack of them. They don't know how to behave with elders, with their fellow students or friends. Teachers can also play a big role in it by making them learn these things in the school because after home, children spend their most of time in the school. Persuasive Techniques:– She has used many these techniques in her thesis as imagery, facts, personal anecdote, expert testimony etc. With the help of these techniques she is succeeded to impress her audience. With the help of them she successfully tells the main ideas of her essay. The goal of these techniques is to persuade the audience to believe or do something. Here are some techniques, she has used in her thesis:– 1. Expert testimony:– We don't believe on anything easily unless that is told by any specific person. We rely on experts to advise us about things that we don't know ourselves. Scientists, doctors, professors and other professionals often appear in ads and advocacy messages, lending their credibility to the product, service, or idea being sold. 9. Comparing Two Paragraphs Paragraph 1: If I would have to trace the moral growth of one of the character in the video, I would pick the little boy. So, the little boy stop getting him wrong and start to like him. The way he was hugging him is like, the little boy was out of all the misunderstood that he had. To me, I would say the story about the robot influenced his moral growth. Paragraph 2: As I understand that since the "x" was a robot and had no choice on living his life. Actually, it was not even his life in the real world. He was just a robot which runs with all the programming inside him. When I was watching the clips, I felt like the little boy knows what he was going to tell him the story about. And the story teller was the same person as the robot. I remember the picture of his wife and son who looks like the little boy and his mother on the picture. I' am guessing that the little boy wanted to know the truth of the story from that man. Oxygen was discovered in 1774 by the British chemist Joseph Priestley and, independently, by the Swedish chemist Carl Wilhelm Scheele; it was shown to be an elemental gas by the French chemist Antoine Laurent Lavoisier in his classic experiments on combustion. Three stable isotopes of oxygen are known; oxygen–16 (atomic mass 16) is the most abundant. It comprises 99.76 percent of ordinary oxygen and was used in determination of atomic weights until the 1960s. There are nine essay writing methods which I learned while attending this course: exemplification, compare/contrast, cause and effect, proposal, narration, process, division/classification, definition, and argument. The only problems I encountered when trying to write the essays that were assigned to me by the instructor was finding suitable subject matter to write about. Once I found my topics for my essay, everything else became easier. I would first produce a rough draft and then the students, the instructor, and myself would go over them in class and decided if what I was writing was in its best form. Fidel Castro is the main contributor to Cuban society. He oversees his people yet allows his people the right to vote him in or out of office. An oligarchy is another type of republic. Mexico and the United States savor this holiday because it is the day where Mexican peasants/ commoners defeated the French and Mexican traitor army that double them in size in Puebla, Mexico one hundred miles away from Mexico city on the 5th of May, 1862. The French had landed in Mexico along with Spanish and English troops five months earlier to collect unpaid debts. In 1855Benito Juarez (minister of justice) issued reforms called...show more content... It is also said that Napoleon wanted to check the powers of the United States before it got too powerful. Napoleon also brought in a new Hapsburg prince who he thought would help him rule the Mexican Empire. His name was Maximilian and his wife's name was Carolota. Napoleon's army hadn't been defeated in over 50 years. The French army invaded Mexico with the finest and most modern day armory and ammunition. They also had a newly constituted foreign legion. The French, at the time feared no one. The French then left the port of Vera Cruz to attack Mexico City from the west. The French thought that the Mexicans would give up should their capitol fall to the enemy as the European countries traditionally did. Under the command of Texas born General Zaragosa, and under Calvary command of Colonel Porfirio Diaz, later to be Mexico's president and dictator, they awaited the French. The French wore bright and stylish colors, opposed to the Mexicans. General Zaragosa ordered colonel Diaz to take his Calvary, the best in the world at that time, out to the French flanks. The French in response sent their Calvary to chase them. As a consequence to the French they were butchered, and the remaining infantrymen tried one last time to charge the Mexicans in unfavorable terrain and stampeding cattle and lost. The Mexican's were victorious and Diaz's superb horsemen chased the remaining French off. By the Mexican's ...Get more content...

  19. Grit Essay Examples Grit is a predictor of academic, professional, and personal success. Grit can be defined as strength of character or the ability to overcome failure and continue to work toward success. People with grit are not always the people with the most natural ability, but their work ethic and ability to overcome obstacles allows them to achieve success. Grit is a very valuable characteristic in almost any venture, as it gives someone an advantage in overcoming the inevitable obstacles they will face. However, grit is much easier adopted when an individual has a growth mindset. The first step to obtaining grit is to correlate both self–control and self–confidence when trying to reach an objective. By doing this, one can focus on the task at hand...show more content... I had no experience as a runner nor did I have the form. This did not phase me however. That year I promised myself to push through all the six mile runs, sore legs, gnarly blisters, and at times, lack of oxygen. At every meet and speed workout practice I pushed myself further and further. I set a goal every time I kicked off from the starting line and never let myself get discouraged when I failed. By my senior year, I was the fourth fastest runner on varsity. That year our varsity team won the district meet, which qualified us to run in the 2016 state meet in Oregon. The transformation over the years were evident. My determination to accomplish my goal of becoming a faster runner was complete. If I had simply just given up that first day of practice, I wouldn't have ran along side of the fastest runners in Oregon or have met the multitude of people that are now my closest friends. Having a goal sets one up for a challenge, whether it being physically or mentally, goals keep us active and thinking in more ways than one. Still, if someone has self–control, confidence, and a goal, they are still not complete. Growth mindset is the cone to an ice cream. It is the foundation of what I think a successful person is. Without it one couldn't use the characteristics mentioned above in more ways than one. Someone with a growth mindset believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work, brains and talent are just the starting point. ...Get more content...

  21. What is Morality? What is Morality? Essay Philosophers around the world have debated the meaning of morality for centuries. However, it is a word too subjective to be either denoted or defined. Aristotle, often referred to as the father of philosophy, advised that one could determine what is moral by examining the mean between two "less desirable" extremes. For example, courage is a mean between fear and thoughtless rashness; generosity, between extravagance and parsimony. Plato argued that "to know the good is to do the good." In other words, those who behave immorally due so out of mere ignorance, not defiance. Furthermore, Plato believed that a moral person is a truly happy person; and because people always desire their own happiness, they always...show more content... This reward system trains us to believe that what is legal is moral. Although a person may be a law– abiding citizen, he or she may not necessarily be moral. The morality of an individual is also based on his or her childhood. Parents have an immense effect on their children's values. For instance, if parents teach their child at early ages to be a hard–worker, to be honest and true, and to have integrity, then it is likely that the child will grow up with these morals instilled within them. However, some children grow to be the antithesis of their parents. They see that their parents are immoral and so they intentionally grow to think and behave differently. If so, is the child immoral for defying his or her parents, or is the child moral for defying his or her immoral parents? Another factor in determining one's morals is one's religiosity. For instance, some religions, such as Hinduism, believe in animal sacrifices as a way of worshiping; however, other religions, such as Catholicism, do not. Thus, to a Catholic, the sacrifice of innocent animals may seem immoral whereas followers of the Hindu religion view the practice as sacred. Therefore, one cannot conclude that simply because a person is religious, he or she is also moral. There are thousands of religions throughout the world; who has the authority to determine whose ...Get more content...
