Morgan. Let's start by learning doing some focusing excercises!

  4. How is the class going to be? • Short lecture …listen & assimilate • Self-paced tutorials …engage & participate • Hands-on work …do it & experiment • Goal oriented ... finish tutorial in class • Come to class and participate: “readers are plentiful; thinkers are rare” – Harriet Martineau

  5. How is the class going to be? • Set goal/objective. Question. • Guidance to reach goal. • Experiment: compare, analyze, evaluate, apply, synthesize + listen & remember • understand the answer, steps, goal • What is next?

  6. Are we going to use computers? • Yes, you must master fundamentals! • Computers are useful, when you know how to use them:“computers are useless, they can only give you answers..” P. Picasso.

  7. Do I have to read the textbook? YES, it’s for your own good!   9. Learning is a pathway not a destination? take notes What should I do to learn the material? A study on Average Memory Retention shows that a person retains: … • 10% if reading it ….. (You will read the material) • 20% if hearing it ….. (You will hear it in class) • 30% if seeing it ….. (You will see it in class) • 50% if seeing it and hearing it ….. (You are doing it now!) • 70% if saying it (repetition…) ….. (you better read it at loud!) • 90% if DOING IT!!! ….. (You MUST do it!) • So, if you : • Read the book (before class)… • Come to class, don’t fall asleep, do the tutorials … • Do the SAM trainings …. • Do the weekly homework assignments…. • Try to explain the material to a friend…. • Do all the homework assignments, tutorials and training projects….on time • You should learn the material and do well in this and any class! “Pain is unavoidable, sufferingis optional” - Unknown relate to other concepts find connections contrast - compare ask questions pose as question? put in context

Your eyes and mind are always working… If you take a look at the following picture, let me tell you ... it is not animated.  Your eyes are making it move.  To test this, stare at one spot for a couple seconds and everything will stop moving.  Or look at the black center of each circle and it will stop moving.  But move your eyes to the next black center and the previous will move after you take your eyes away from it....  Weird  just put them to do some good work!
