  1. Chemileon A Virtual chemistry lab

  2. Game Design • Chemileon is a virtual lab space where players can experiment with different materials and discover their reactions. • The player can drag and drop items onto the lab table to see what happens when they are combined. • The reaction will be animated and text with voice-over will explain what happened and why, using both scientific and non-scientific language. • A puzzle mode tasks the player with combining chemicals to get a specific result. This mode would ease users into understanding how products of chemical reactions are created. • By completing puzzles, players can earn and collect badges to showcase their accomplishments.

  3. Examples • The following are examples of experiments and what materials would be combined to create them. In production, we would consult someone more knowledgeable in chemistry and chemistry education to see what experiments they think would be most valuable. • Green Fire: Boric acid, Antifreeze and Water Remover, Metal Container, Lighter • Sparkler: Iron wire, Potassium Chlorate, Aluminum, Charcoal, Dextrin in Water Solution, Sotrium Nitrate • Elephant Toothpaste: Container, Hydrogen Peroxide, Yeast, Water, Dish Soap, Food Coloring

  4. Marketing • Chemileon’s intended audience are students of all age groups. • Some schools do not have the funds for conducting science experiments, and Chemileon offers an affordable way for instructors to offer a hands-on approach to learning science. Additionally, this game can be used outside of the classroom. • Many schools, STEM or otherwise, are looking to implement technology into their classes. With the purchase of the Customized Curriculum Pack, schools gain access to a specific set of experiments designed to coincide with the curriculum of each grade level. • Parents hope to provide their children with meaningful, educational games, and the edutainment market is currently underdeveloped.

  5. Roles and Growth • Faith Wilkison: Game Design, 2D Art, Animation • Thomas Butler: Programming, Technical Art, Sound Design • Forrest King: Programming, Puzzle Design • We plan on offering our game on the App Store and Google Play for free. While the free version offers a limited selection of experiments for multiple grade levels, schools can purchase access to customized experiment sets designed for each grade level.
