Why RadRec New England Journal of Medicine, 2007: In a few decades, as many as 2% of all cancers in the US might be due to CT scans alone. Annals of Emergency Medicine, 2011: CT scan use during ED visits increased 330% from 1996 to 2007. Report No. 160 by the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements: In 2006, Americans were exposed to more than seven times as much ionizing radiation from medical procedures as they were in the early 1980s. The Lancet, June 7th, 2012 : CT scans in children delivering 50 mSv of radiation may triple the risk of leukemia and that doses delivering about 60 mSv may triple the risk of brain cancer.
