  1. ICT Training Course Session 2

  2. Session 2 Objectives To understand the structure of the school network To be aware of classroom management issues in an ICT room To be able to create web based resources using Microsoft Publisher To begin preparing lesson quest materials for the delivery of your ICT based lesson

  3. School Network - Overview All students and teachers have access to the school network A computer network allows access to the same software and hardware wherever you are in the school A network allows students and staff to save work in their “user area” and access that area wherever they are in the school Only authorised users can gain access to the school network – logging on

  4. School Network – Shared areas When you log on you have access to 3 areas to store files • H drive – your own personal user space • only you have access to files in this area 2. P drive – a shared area staff can store files in this area and view the contents of it students can only view the contents of this area 3. R drive – a shared area some staff can store files in this area all staff can view the contents of this area students have no access to this area

  5. School Network - Printing Every networked machine in the school can print in black and white using a laser printer All pupils have access to print one copy of a piece of work at a time Some staff machines in offices are connected to colour ink jet printers

  6. Management of an ICT lesson An ICT room requires some very different classroom management strategies compared with other classroom situations The following is a list of situations to consider:

  7. Management of an ICT lesson Where will students start your lesson and how will you begin? Will students work individually or in pairs? How will you choose who works with whom? How will you control students moving to and from machines? How will you gain attention during computer time? How will you control printing towards the end of the lesson? How will you end the computer time? How will you end the lesson?

  8. Management of an ICT lesson There are no right or wrong answers, but all of these situations must be carefully considered in your planning

  9. Web Based Resources A web based resource is one which you access through a web browser such as Internet explorer There are lots of ways of creating web pages including HTML coding or using web design software like Macromedia Dreamweaver Microsoft Publisher can be used to create simple web based resources which include images, animated images, hyperlinks to movies or sounds, or other web pages Simply create a Publisher page as normal, and save it as a Web Page.

  10. Web Based Resources – Why? There is no requirement for you to create web based resources for your lesson quest Students only need to load 1 file to carry out the whole lesson quest All other resources can be linked to the web resource you produce – Word/Excel/PowerPoint, websites, movie clips, sounds

  11. Now it’s your turn! You are going to create a multimedia web based resource: You have 30 minutes to create a website that will make us all laugh – there will be a prize! Your website will need the following features: • At least 2 pages • Internal links • External links • Video clip • Audio clip
