  1. IMPACT INDIA: Movement of Professionals Against Corruption and for Transparency

  2. If You Are a Professional : Make an MPACT • While it is all too easy to shift the blame for every evil in the country, including the Mumbai Blasts to the POLITICIANS, can we really ABSOLVE ourselves of our RESPONSIBILITY? • When a family member is in distress do we apportion BLAME, or take immediate action to reduce the suffering and PAIN

  3. Why Professionals • Behind every act of corruption, a Professional is involved , directly, indirectly or implicitly. • As a bureaucrat, banker, corporate manager, doctor, lawyer, architect, town planner or a policeman, professor or working journalist….one or several amongst us has NOT followed professional ethics by looking the other way when an ACT of corruption was happening • At our level, corruption is sheer GREED, and there can be no justification for it

  4. Why Professionals • We cannot change the politician , or the political system overnight. But as professionals we can start the Reform process TODAY, starting with ourselves, and our immediate colleagues • We are the only ones who can suggest systemic changes that can root corruption in daily life • Corruption is affecting our professional growth adversely

  5. Why Professionals? • We would like our careers to grow on competencies, rather than contacts • We would like to leave a better world for our children • We often express our frustration in the drawing room : its time we did something about it!

  6. Are you willing to make an IMPACT If you are a professional who believes that YOU can make a positive difference to India, read on, add/edit this presentation, and forward it to friends Why ONLY professionals We can only talk about Ourselves…only We can be the CHANGE we talk about

  7. What is IMPACT • A Movement of Professionals to address corruption in everyday life • A Movement to promote Transparency in Government and Corporate life • A Movement to ensure that corruption does not become acceptable in society • A Movement to offer ‘systems solutions’

  8. Why are some societies more corrupt • Where systems are weak, where rules are broken, where entitlements are denied unless bribes are given, or ‘influence ‘exercised’ • Where professionals do not explicitly lay down what is acceptable, and what is not, and leave scope for ambiguity • Where Peer Pressure is NOT the determining factor in professional pride

  9. We need professionals in every sphere… We will respect each other’s ‘professional integrity’, and not run down any other profession We will stop drawing comparisons, celebrate diversity and encourage professional excellence everywhere: we need good mycologists just as we need good curators

  10. Who are the Professionals All those who have a professional degree , follow the rules and ethics of their profession, earn their principal livelihood from the profession… the A to Z of professionals…. 11. Questions for Professionals in Corporate Houses • Are corporate houses Unwilling Victims or Active Collaborators • Is Corporate Social Responsibility compatible with the expensive gifts at Diwali, X Mas, New Year to those who have Nuisance/Patronage Value • How many times have Short Cuts been adopted to secure contracts
