    3. Fighting is just one form of what we call conflict. According to the World Book Dictionary, a conflict is “a fight, struggle, or battle; a disagreement, dispute, or a quarrel.” Conflict is a natural part of our lives. Conflict can be as small as an argument or as big as a war; it occurs whenever people are living., working or playing together. Every conflict has at least two sides, and each side thinks it is right. In a conflict, people may get hurt. They can be physically injured or even killed. Their feelings can get hurt, they can lose something they own, or they may just feel frustrated and angry. This presentation is set up to introduce and give information on conflicts and how to address conflict situations. Make sure students copy down definition for conflict. This presentation is set up to introduce and give information on conflicts and how to address conflict situations. 4. It is important to study conflict because most people spend a great deal of time and energy in conflict. Although it is not possible to eliminate conflict from our lives, it is possible to learn to deal fairly with it. We need to learn about the causes of conflict, and the consequences that can occur when conflicts are ignored, avoided, or settled in unsatisfactory ways. Studying conflict is important to all of us who want to make our lives more joyful, caring and loving.

    5. Conflicts are sure to happen no matter how hard we try to avoid then. Instead of reacting “blindly,” we can prepare ourselves to become more effective conflict managers. Football players practice, actors rehearse, scientists experiment and we, too, can prepare ourselves to deal “professionally” with conflict when it occurs. Conflicts can take place within a person, between people, and within or among groups and nations.

    6. Identify the problem. Focus on the problem. Attack the problem, not the person. Listen with an open mind. Treat the other person’s feelings with respect. Take responsibility for your actions. Explain the six rules to fighting fair to the students.Explain the six rules to fighting fair to the students.

    7. There is a better understanding. Feelings are brought into the open. People respect each other. There is a feeling of trust. Everyone feels good about the solution. No one is hurt, physically or emotionally. What people win if they follow the rules for fair fightingWhat people win if they follow the rules for fair fighting

    8. Share: Peoples feelings become more important than things. Chance: Luck decides who wins. Postpone: Putt off resolving conflict until you are more in control. Avoid: Sometimes it’s not worth the bother. Get Help: People who may be counted on for a fair decision. These are nine different strategies for resolving conflict situations. These are nine different strategies for resolving conflict situations.

    9. Apologize: I’m sorry doesn't mean “I’m wrong.” It lets the other person know that you are sorry about the situation. Humor: A good laugh works miracles. Compromise: Both give up something and both get something. Take Turns: Everybody wins.

    10. As strange as it seems, conflict offers people the opportunity to look at a problem creatively, from a new perspective with new ideas. Conflict can be a great motivator for change. Human history is filled with many exciting examples of conflicts which were resolved constructively and non-violently. Remember, a peaceful world begins with you!
