  10. Where I’m From By Ebony Nicole Johnson I’m from a place when the snow-capped mountains are covered in white, and the Shenandoah Valley sings with the wind, I know I am home. Where I’m from, winter there is never more beautiful than during the holiday season of carolers and spiced apple rum Where I’m from, down in the basement by the fire is a small table that shows my rainbow…”Family” Where I’m from, when I visit, my Chihuahua Isabella knows to run down the steps and make a sharp left to my retreat adorned with art, 9 foot walls of glass window, and an old quilt covered in the scents of young age Where I’m from, on the walls you see Andy, Luke, Jesse, Damien, and Earl, Jimmy, Cornelia, Charlie, and Ebony filling every space of our blended family of black and white, trophies and pee ball awards I’m from the traditions of spiced rum balls, smoked salmon, port wine cheddar until 2am and having Monopoly Christmas tournaments with an occasional dance with my mother I’m from obviously a family who carols at Christmas and does every idiotic or cliché tradition known to man during this holiday I’m from a place where I know that euphoric North Pole is always in session.
