E-Simulation in Action Deborah Ellison MSN, RN Austin Peay State University
Objectives • Discuss reasons to use e-simulation programs • Benefits of using e-simulation programs • Discuss ways APSU implemented e- simulation & ways you can implement e-simulation programs.
What is E-Simulation? • Why E-Simulation? • Characteristics of Millennials
Millennial Student Enrollment Figure 1: Nation-wide millennial student enrollment at degree-seeking institutions. In 2012, Millennial student enrollment will increase by 93.5 percent over the 2002 level, while enrollment of students from other generations will decrease by 50.2 percent (National Center for Education Statistics, 2002).
Just a Few Types of E-Simulation • MicroSims • Second Life • BLS & ACLS
Benefits of Utilizing E-Simulation • Costs • Faculty Time • Meets the needs of the millennial students • Student’s like the program • But for it to be of benefit it must be valued by the instructors.
Incorporating into courses • Finding the “best fit” for the course • Demonstration of the program • Value by instructors by giving assignments that are attached to a grade
