  3. Introduction • Luke 13:1-31 There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2 And Jesus answered and said to them, "Do you suppose that these Galileans were worse sinners than all other Galileans, because they suffered such things? 3 I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.

  4. Introduction • Luke 13:4-5 4 Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem? 5 I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish."

  5. 1 – Jesus Preached Current Events • There are wars, disasters, storms, earthquakes, floods, explosions • Galileans killed by Pilate • 18 died in a construction accident • What can we learn from events of our day? • Airplanes crash • Earthquake in Japan • War in Afghanistan • Life is uncertain – We must REPENT!

  6. 2 – Jesus Preached Sin is Deadly and will be Punished • He did not “sugar coat” the message • Failure to repent of our sins will result in punishment from God. • Gehenna – Greek word for eternal fire • 12 times in the NT • 11 of these are spoken by Jesus • 10 of these – Jesus spoke in a public setting • LESSON TO LEARN: Sin will be punished – Unless we must REPENT!

  7. 3 – Jesus Preached Support of Government and Law • He did not rail against a wicked Pilate • He did not condemn Pilate or stir up the people to drive him from office • Romans 13:1 1 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. • LESSON TO LEARN: Sin will be punished – Unless we must REPENT!

  8. 3 – Jesus Preached Support of Government and Law • Jesus did not teach against the Law of Moses • He made the law stricter • Adultery includes lust • Murder includes hate • Lying includes broken vows (promises) • Hebrews 2:2 2 For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, (3) How shall we escape? • LESSON TO LEARN: God expects us to OBEY the law – Disobedience demands that we REPENT!

  9. 4 – Jesus Preached that God Does Punish Us • We call them accidents, tragedy, terrorist attacks, storms • God is aware of all that happens • Psalms 139:1-2 1 O Lord, You have searched me and known me.2 You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. • This does NOT mean that God caused it to happen • But God can use these events to teach us

  10. 4 – Jesus Preached that God Does Punish Us • Romans 8:28 28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. • LESSON TO LEARN: God can use current events to remind us – Think about your life and REPENT!

  11. 5 – Jesus Preached that Judgment is Next • Hebrews 9:27 27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, • There is no warning • There is no second chance • Sometimes Christians die in these events • LESSON TO LEARN: Sudden death of anyone should remind us that Judgment Day is next – The time to REPENT IS NOW!

  12. 6 – Jesus Preached: “REPENT” • Moses – to Israel • Jonah – to Ninevah • John the Baptizer – to Judah • Jesus – to the multitude • Apostles – to the early Christians • Acts 2:38 38 Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

  14. 6 – Jesus Preached: “REPENT” • Acts 3:19 19 Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, • LESSON TO LEARN: The message of the Bible is “Repent and be ready” – The time to REPENT IS NOW!

  15. It’s Your Life • It’s your life, and you can kill it • It’s your heart, and you can still it • It’s your grave, and you can fill it • But remember it’s God’s love You’re throwing away.

  16. It’s Your Life • It’s your life, and you can abuse it • It’s your heart, and you can loose it • Heaven or Hell, just as you choose it • But remember it’s God’s love You’re throwing away.
