  1. The Book of James “Actions Speak Louder Than Words” By Pastor Fee Soliven James 2:17-20 Wednesday Night February 20, 2013

  2. 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

  3. 18 But someone will say, "You have faith, and I have works." Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.

  4. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe--and tremble!

  5. 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?

  6. 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

  7. Galatians 5:6 "For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love"

  8. Hebrews 11:6 "But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him"

  9. Matthew 6:31-34 31 Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32 "For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all

  10. these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

  11. Matthew 7:7-11 7 "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or

  12. what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

  13. 18 But someone will say, "You have faith, and I have works." Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.

  14. Galatians 5:6 "For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love"

  15. Hebrews 11:30-40 30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they were encircled for seven days. 31 By faith the harlot Rahab did not perish with those who did not believe, when she had received the spies with peace. 32 And

  16. what more shall I say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon and Barak and Samson and Jephthah, also of David and Samuel and the prophets: 33 who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises,

  17. stopped the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. 35 Women received their dead raised to life again.

  18. And others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection. 36 Still others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and imprisonment. 37 They were stoned, they were sawn in two, were

  19. tempted, were slain with the sword. They wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented-- 38 of whom the world was not worthy. They wandered in deserts and mountains, in dens and caves of the earth. 39 And all these,

  20. having obtained a good testimony through faith, did not receive the promise, 40 God having provided something better for us, that they should not be made perfect apart from us.

  21. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe--and tremble!

  22. Deuteronomy 6:4-5 4 "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one! 5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

  23. Mark 12:28-31 28 Then one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him, "Which is the first commandment of all?" 29 Jesus answered

  24. him, "The first of all the commandments is: 'Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is one. 30'And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.' This is the first

  25. commandment. 31 And the second, like it, is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these."

  26. Matthew 8:28-34 28 When He had come to the other side, to the country of the Gergesenes, there met Him two demon-possessed men, coming out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so that no one could pass that way.

  27. 29 And suddenly they cried out, saying, "What have we to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?" 30 Now a good way off from them there was a herd of many swine feeding. 31 So the demons begged Him, saying, "If You cast us out, permit us to go away into the herd

  28. of swine." 32 And He said to them, "Go." So when they had come out, they went into the herd of swine. And suddenly the whole herd of swine ran violently down the steep place into the sea, and perished in the water. 33 Then those who kept

  29. them fled; and they went away into the city and told everything, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men. 34 And behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus. And when they saw Him, they begged Him to depart from their region.

  30. 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?

  31. Definition of a Fool: 1. A person lacking in judgment or prudence 2. A harmlessly deranged person or one lacking in common powers of understanding

  32. Proverbs 18:2 "A fool has no delight in understanding, But in expressing his own heart"

  33. Proverbs 18:6-7 6 A fool's lips enter into contention, And his mouth calls for blows. 7 A fool's mouth is his destruction, And his lips are the snare of his soul.

  34. Ecclesiastics 2:14 "The wise man's eyes are in his head, But the fool walks in darkness"

  35. Ecclesiastics 10:3 "Even when a fool walks along the way, He lacks wisdom, And he shows everyone that he is a fool"
