Example #1:

What is the circumference of a circle whose radius is 5 m? Round your answer to the nearest hundredth of a meter.

C = πD

C = π (2)(5)

C≈ 31.4159

C ≈ 31.42 m

Example #2:

What is the diameter of a circle whose circumference is 21.25 cm? Round your answer to the nearest tenth.

C = πD

21.25 = πD

6.764≈D

6.8 cm ≈ D

Remember the formula to find the volume of a cylinder is the area of the base times the altitude or height of the cylinder. V = πr2H

Example #3

Find the volume of a cylinder with a radius of 8 cm and a height of 18 cm. Round to the nearest cubic cm.

Example #4:

• The company will make a bolt for an airplane part in the shape of a cylinder. The diameter of the bolt needs to be 1.12 cm and the height of the bolt is 3.5 cm.
• What is the volume of a single bolt? Round your answer to the nearest tenth.
• If the company will make 1,296 bolts and a cubic centimeter of steel costs \$.05, how much will the steel for the entire order cost?
