  2. Making Application • Register with the Institute • Select the RTP you wish to work with (for OSTP) • Develop the program with the RTP • Decide on the respective responsibilities • Get a quote from the RTP • Prepare a budget

Preparing the Budget • Identify possible contributions in kind • Identify expenditure in the program that the Institute won’t fund • Promotional Activities • Motor Vehicles • Items such as bibs and clothing • Actual participation in Events • Get Quotes from • RTP • Service Providers • Download the template from the Institute Website • Make an educated guess on exchange rates • Do the Maths

  4. Finalise the Application • Complete the rest of the application • Write the text parts of the application to supply the required details of the program • Get your selected RTP to comment on the program • Submit before the closing date

  5. So far, so good • Wait for the December announcement • Check on Website • Wait for email confirmation • Expect queries particularly on large items • Provide answers and amend budgets if requested

Next Steps • FIA Institute will • Send final agreement for signature • Guidelines for the use of Institute Branding • Institute logos in electronic formats • Grant Conditions, e.g. • Demonstrate that ASN contribution secured • Additional info • Invoice the FIA for the initial instalment (40%, 60 days of commencement date)

  7. Summing Up • Register • Use on site training and sample application • Have your selected RTP assist with application process • Wait for a positive response • The Institute staff will assist you in completing any further requirements

  10. Finding Objectives What did we wish to achieve? • provide opportunities to young drivers; • change the demographics of the sport; • do a service to the community at large. SAFETY FIRST, ALWAYS!

  11. The YDP • BaB Basic Design of the YDP • Phase 1 – selection of participants; 48 initial participants; • Phase 2 – identify talent within the participant group; • Phase 3 – start to provide specific skills; • Phase 4 – identify the cream; • Phase 5 –diversion and retention scheme.

  12. 1. Finding Participants • Widely publicised; • Objective - 5,000 entries; • Open to all within age group; • Short (200 words) “Why pick me” • Safety based questionnaire - • Pedestrian, • Passenger, • Driver

  13. 2. Identify Talent • Groups of 12; • Lectures on Road Safety; - Lectures on car handling; - Individual Simulator Tuition; - Individual Simulator Testing; - Diversion and retention.

  14. 3. Provide Skills • Reduce group to 24 (2 x 12), • Basic advanced driving tuition:- • Lectures (I,P,D,E), • On road tuition, • Skidpan exercises, • High speed tuition, • Diversion and Retention.

  15. 4. Dealing with the Cream • Reduce Group to 12, • Give tuition in co-driving and driving, • Hold a Rally Sprint type shootout, every participant as driver and co-driver, • Select final 4. Participate as two teams in a Provincial Event, Select Final team to Participate in an NRC event - Diversion and Retention
