  2. Who I Was. • I was a 42 year old Spaniard. • I grew up with Spain talking about Christopher Columbus's discovery. • I had a dog named Leoncico. • I was not from a rich family. • I had three to four wives.

  3. Why I Was Important • I claimed the Pacific and all land touching it for Spain. • I led expeditions to Panama. • I governed the Colony of Darien. • I discovered the Pacific and became the first European to see it’s waters. • I helped establish the town of Maria de la Antigua.

  4. What Impact I had on the Americas and the World! • I inspired exploration along the western coast of South America. • I brought people over to the Americas. • And of course I discovered the Pacific.

  5. When and Where I Made My Journey • My first voyage stretched from 1500 to 1501. Ok one year. • The boats I traveled on docked in Hispaniola. • I sailed through part of the Gulf of Urabá • I crossed isthmus to the Pacific.

  6. How I Traveled • I traveled most of the time by boat. • I crossed the Atlantic ocean. • I crossed land on foot. • I crossed many different seas/oceans. • I worked as crew most of the time.

  7. Interesting facts about ME • I tried to make peace with the Indians. • On my first voyage we passed up the coast of pearls. • I was framed for a crime I didn’t commit by a friend and was publicly beheaded for it. • 1475?-1519? • Broma (a type of wood worm) shredded a ship I sailed on’s hull.
