  1. Networked Advanced Vehicle Anti-Tamper & Alert System 2011- Vermont Technical College Electro-Mechanical Senior Project Threat Verification- NAVATASensor Selection and Mechanical Design Tim Quinn, Jacques Dupuis, Henry Mossell

  2. Problem Statement • Check Feasibility for Different Sensors • Discrete Package • Robust • Water Proof • Easy to Replace • Sensitivity • 5 Volt • Max current 0.577 A • Detection is directly under the Vehicle

  3. Sensor Test Method • PIR • Mounted Under a Table • Walk by, crawl under, with shield • Simulated Tumbleweed at Various Temperatures • Ultra-Sonic • Mounted Under a Table • Crawl under • Simulated detonation cord placement • Pitot Tube • Simulated wind gusts • Ping Pong • Simulated wind gusts

  4. Sensor Evaluation

  5. Pressure Sensor Freescale MPX2010 0 to 10 kPa (1.45 psi) Ratio metric 25 mV fullscale output Susceptible to dirt and debris

  6. Passive Infrared Sensor 5V input, Analog or Digital output Easy interfacing, durable, enclosed by lens, easily replicable 10 meter PIR: 116° of viewing up to 10meters Slight Motion PIR: 102° of view up to 2meters

  7. Ultra-Sonic Sensor

  8. Ping Pong Gust Detection Sensor

  9. Solution Statement • To design a system that uses a Passive Infrared Sensors to detect a real threat to the vehicle. An array of PIRs shall be mounted in the under carriage pointed in a direction that allows for complete coverage under the vehicle. The sensors will only be deployed when the alarm is activated.

  10. System Diagram Array Bus CANH Sensor Housing CANL CAN Sleep Config IN +5 V GND Linear Actuator HCS08 CAN Transceiver Current Sensor Demo /Test Circuit PIR Earth Magnet H-Bridge Turck IP65 Connectors

  11. Housing Design • 6061 machined Aluminum housing • Rubber O-ring seals for cover and side door • 5V mini linear actuator 30mm stroke • PCB boards mounted on either side of actuator • Actuator extends PIR into open view when vehicle is shut off and armed with NAVATA system
