  2. Pole vaulting is a track and field event in which a person uses a long, flexible pole (which today is usually made either of fiberglass or carbon fiber) as an aid to leap over a bar. Pole jumping competitions were known to the ancient Greeks, as well as the Cretans and Celts. It has been a full medal event at the Olympic Games since 1896 for men and 2000 for women. Pole vault

  4. Monika Pyrek (born 11 August 1980 in Gdynia) - Polish athlete, vice-world and European pole vault multiple champion and record holder. She was the record holder of Europe.   5. Born in Gdynia, competing at the 2004 Olympics, she placed fourth with 4.55metres. Monika Pyrek won a silver medal in the 2005 World Championships in Athletics with the result 4.60 m. She also won the silver medal at the 2006 European Athletics Championships. Monika Pyrek's personal best is 4.82 metres. She has won the Polish Championship several times, most recently at the 2007 Polish Athletics Championships in Poznań.Monika Pyrek lives and trains in Szczecin in the club MKL Szczecin. For her sport achievements, she received:Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta (5th Class) in 2009.
