  4. What is a Bike Boulevard • Low-volume streets optimized for bicycle and pedestrian travel • Facilitates interconnectivity among schools, parks and neighborhoods • Street beautification • Safe pedestrian and bicycle crossing at intersections

  5. 3rd Street Golden Alamitos Broadway 6th Street (Junipero to Bellflower) Key Design Concerns Separated Bikeway: Broadway & 3rd Tie in with linear park planned for PE ROW Connections with Bellflower and PCH Crossing at Ximeno

  7. Elements of Design • “Sharrows” – Shared Lane Markings • Positioning for cyclists outside the door zone • Gives notification to motorists to expect cyclist in lane 7

  8. Roundabouts • Slower traffic speeds • Safer for bicyclists and pedestrians due to the reduction conflict points with vehicles Doubled number of students walking and tripled number of bicycling to school

  10. Project Goals • Reduce speeds on residential streets • Minimize cut through traffic on local streets • Ensure safe crossing of busy streets for pedestrians and people who ride bikes • Provide safe and convenient access to schools, parks and businesses
