  1. Operating Systems

  2. What is an Operating System? (OS) • A type of software program that determines the way information is displayed on the screen, how it is printed, and how the mouse works.

  3. Two popular OS… • Windows 7 • MAC OS X

  4. MAC vs. PC • Mac vs. PC Commercials

  5. MAC vs. PC • Macs and PCs also have a lot in common. • For example, a Mac is like a BMW and a PC is like a nice fully restored Chevy Camaro. They are different, but they are both cars. • If you take apart a Mac computer, and you take apart a PC, you will find that they use the same parts and components.

  6. Windows OS • OS for majority personal computers. • Programs open in “windows.” • Multitask easier-view documents side by side • Built in defense against spyware and malware. • Can connect directly to the TV. • Watch and listen to movies and music on laptop stored on computer at home. • Share photos easier • More hardware and software options for PC than a Mac. Easier compatibility

  7. Mac OS X • OS for Macintosh computers. • Incredible graphics. • Very secure. No threats of virus or spyware when surfing the net. • Very compatible with any digital camera, printer, etc. • Rarely crashes.

  8. Why Mac’s are Better -Macs work great with other Apple components such as the iPhone, iPod Classic, iPod Nano, iPod Touch, iPod Shuffle, etc... - Macs are very simple to use. - Macs are less likely to computer viruses, although they can get viruses. -Macs come with better software, out of the box (iLife). - Macs give you out of the box access to the iTunes Store, if you are an iPod or iPhone user.

  9. Why PC’s are Better? - You can build a PC from the ground up, picking each individual component. PCs give you maximum customizability. - PCs are generally cheaper in price. You can get the same processor, amount of RAM, and hard drive capacity for much cheaper with a PC. -You have many options when it comes to choosing a PC - More people use PCs. Thus, PCs have a larger support community behind them. - The majority of businesses use PCs. - PCs have more compatible accessories than Macs. - PCs are more upgradable.

  10. Conclusion • To compare Mac and PC... Which one is better? It's all personal preference. You can see that both of them have some great advantages. Some people like Macs better, some people like PCs better.
