Torres 50 MW wind farm (ONE) • Tan Tan 10 MW wind farm (ONEP) • Tetouan 10 MW wind farm (LAFARGE) • Tanafnit 41 MW Hydropower dam (ONE) • 105,000 photovoltaic kits in rural area (ONE)

The first Carbon exhibition in North Africa and Middle East region – Djerba, September 22-24, 2004 Renewable energy projects Description and distribution Renewable energy projects represent a potential of 9.7 million CER, that is 60% of the total CER of Moroccan approved CDM projects. • Wind power is for 81% of the CER (7.85 million), then Hydro with 16% (1.59 million), and solar with 3% (0.27 million). • The projects promoters are ONE (National Office of Electricity) with 94% of the CER (9.19 million), then LAFARGE (private cement factory) with 4% (345,000) and ONEP (National Office of Drinking Water) with 2% (172,400).

The first Carbon exhibition in North Africa and Middle East region – Djerba, September 22-24, 2004 Essaouira 60 MW wind farm Project summary • Full name :Power generation at Essaouira 60 MW wind farm; • Location : At Cap Sim, 15 km far from Essaouira; • Category : Renewable energy – Grid connected power generation; • Project promoter :Office National d’Electricité (ONE), public office; • Project status : PDD approved; • Date of operation : 2006; • First year of CER delivery : 2006; • Crediting period : 2006-2015; • Expected CER : 1.5 million.

The first Carbon exhibition in North Africa and Middle East region – Djerba, September 22-24, 2004 Essaouira 60 MW wind farm Project description • Technical features : • Installed capacity : 60 MW using the wind power technology; • Expected production : 210 GWh per year; • Components : 71 horizontal axis wind turbines of 850 kW each, electronic devices for regulation and protection, LV/MV and MV/HV transformers, to supply the national grid at 60 kV. • Financial issues : • Total cost of the project : US $ 82.5 million • Timing : • Starting of works : end of 2004 ; • Operation : 2006.

The first Carbon exhibition in North Africa and Middle East region – Djerba, September 22-24, 2004 Tangiers 140 MW wind farm Project summary • Full name :Power generation at Tangiers 140 MW wind farm; • Location :At Beni Mejmel, 12 km to the east of Tangiers and Dhar Saadane, 22 km to the south-east of Tangiers; • Category : Renewable energy – Grid connected power generation; • Project promoter :Office National d’Electricité (ONE), public office; • Project status : PIN approved; • Date of operation : 2007; • First year of CER delivery : 2007; • Crediting period : 2007-2016; • Expected CER : 4 million.

The first Carbon exhibition in North Africa and Middle East region – Djerba, September 22-24, 2004 Tangiers 140 MW wind farm Project description • Technical features : • Installed capacity : 140 MW using the wind power technology; • Expected production : 510 GWh per year; • Components : 165 horizontal axis wind turbines of 850 kW each, electronic devices for regulation and protection, LV/MV and MV/HV transformers, to supply the national grid at 225 kV. • Financial issues : • Total cost of the project : US $ 170 million (Euro 148 million) • Timing : • Starting of works : May 2004 ; • Operation : 2007.

Torres 50 MW wind farm; • Location : At Taghramt, 10 km far from Tetouan city; • Category : Renewable energy – Grid connected power generation; • Project promoter :Office National d’Electricité (ONE), public office; • Project status : PIN approved; • Date of operation : 2007; • First year of CER delivery : 2007; • Crediting period : 2007-2016; • Expected CER : 1.83 million.

Torres 50 MW wind farm Project description • Technical features : • Installed capacity : 50.4 MW using the wind power technology; • Expected production : 225 GWh per year; • Components : 84 horizontal axis wind turbines of 600 kW each, electronic devices for regulation and protection, LV/MV and MV/HV transformers, to supply the national grid at 225 kV. • Financial issues : • Total cost of the project : US $ 62 million • Timing : • Starting of works : June 2005 ; • Operation : 2007.

The first Carbon exhibition in North Africa and Middle East region – Djerba, September 22-24, 2004 Full size wind farm projects Baseline methodology • Methodology : • Used in “Wigton wind farm in Jamaica” and submitted to CDM EB. • New consolidated methodology ACM0002 will be used in new PDD version. • Approach : • Demonstrate that the project is not BAU; • Determine the most likely scenario in absence of the project; • Determine the avoided emissions by calculating the Projected Operating Margin with weighted CEF of the national power plants ; • Calculations : • Through the crediting period, the weighted CEF moves down from 0.805 (2006) up to 0.729 (2009) and then increases to 0.777 (2015);

The first Carbon exhibition in North Africa and Middle East region – Djerba, September 22-24, 2004 Tan Tan 10 MW wind farm Project description • Technical features : • Installed capacity : 10 MW using the wind power technology; • Expected production : 22.5 GWh per year; • Components : 20 horizontal axis wind turbines of 500 kW each, electronic devices for regulation and protection, LV/MV transformers, to supply the national grid at 22 kV. • Financial issues : • Total cost of the project : US $ 36 million (including the SWDP). • Timing : • Starting of works : 2005 ; • Operation : 2007.

The first Carbon exhibition in North Africa and Middle East region – Djerba, September 22-24, 2004 Small scale wind farm projects Baseline methodology • Methodology : • Described in paragraph 29 of Appendix B of the simplified M&P. • Approach : • Demonstrate that the project is not BAU; • Determine the most likely scenario in absence of the project; • Determine the avoided emissions by calculating the Combined Operating Margin with recent additions weighted CEF of the national power plants ; • Calculations : • Through the crediting period, the CEF moves down from 0.896 (OM) to 0.836 (RA);

The first Carbon exhibition in North Africa and Middle East region – Djerba, September 22-24, 2004 Tanafnit hydropower station Project summary • Full name :Tanafnit / El Borj 41 MW hydropower station; • Location : At Tanafit, 40 km to the north-east of Khenifra city; • Category : Renewable energy – Grid connected power generation; • Project promoter :Office National d’Electricité (ONE), public office; • Project status : PIN approved; • Date of operation : 2007; • First year of CER delivery : 2007; • Crediting period : 2007-2016; • Expected CER : 1.6 million.

The first Carbon exhibition in North Africa and Middle East region – Djerba, September 22-24, 2004 Tanafnit hydropower station Project description • Technical features : • Installed power : 41.4 MW; • Expected production : 206 GWh per year; • Components : Derivation from dam through a 3 m diameter pipe over 3 km to Tanafit hydropower station and through a 3.5 m diameter pipe over 10.6 km to El Borj hydropower station. • Financial issues : • Total cost of the project : US $ 102.5 million • Timing : • Starting of works : end of 2004; • Operation : 2007.

The first Carbon exhibition in North Africa and Middle East region – Djerba, September 22-24, 2004 Photovoltaic kits in rural areas Project summary • Full name :Electricity supply of 105,000 rural houses by photovoltaic kits; • Location : Around 50 different rural regions in Morocco; • Category : 1-A : Electrical energy production by the user with no connection to the national grid; • Project promoter :ONE – public agency; • Project status : PIN approved – PDD on progress; • Date of operation : • Phase 1 : 16.000 kits (2.000 in 2003 – 5.000 in 2004 – 7.000 in 2005 – 2.000 in 2006); • Phase 2 : 12.000 kits (6.000 in 2005 – 6.000 in 2006); • Phase 3 : 37.000 kits (10.000 in 2005 – 14.000 in 2006 – 13.000 in 2007); • Phase 4 : 40.000 kits (10.000 per year, from 2006 to 2009). • First year of CER delivery : 2007; • Crediting period : 2007-2016; • Expected CER : 268,000.

The first Carbon exhibition in North Africa and Middle East region – Djerba, September 22-24, 2004 Photovoltaic kits in rural areas Project description • Technical features : • Installed capacity : 14 MW using the solar power technology; • Expected production : 30.7 GWh per year; • Components : 105,000 photovoltaic kits of 133 W, operating 6 hrs/d, with domestic circuits supplying 4 lamps and a plug. • Financial issues : • Total cost of the project : US $ 180 million. • Timing : • Starting of works : 2003 ; • Operation : 2006 (phase 1 & 2) – 2007 (phase 3) – 2009 (phase 4).
