  3. What is Locksmith? “A person who makes and repairs locks. Locksmithing is a traditional trade and in most countries requires completion of an apprenticeship. The level of formal education required varies from country to country, from a simple training certificate awarded by an employer, to a full diploma from an engineering college in addition to time spent working as an apprentice.”

  4. 6 common lock problems and solutions. Door locks are a part of every day life that we generally don’t have to put much thought into. They keep your family/coworkers, possessions, and property safe and secure so that you don’t have to worry whenever you leave. Locks are really only something we think about when something goes wrong, and when something goes wrong with a lock, it tends to go terribly wrong. With over 40 years of experience, Anytime Locksmith LLChas all of the tricks of the trade to get your locks back on track! Below are the six most common problems with regards to locks and the solutions to help fix them.

  5. 1. KEY BROKE IN DOOR “We’ve covered this in a previous blog post, but it’s still one of the most frustrating lock and key problems home and business owners face. More often than not, broken keys occur when you’re low on time and trying to rush the opening or securing of the lock. One way to avoid this issue is to slow down. Take your time when locking or unlocking your door so that you can not only help to prevent the key from breaking in the lock, but also to make sure that the lock is being secured properly and keeping your property safe.”

  6. 2. KEY WON‘T INSERT “There are a number of reasons why you might not be able to insert your key into the door lock. First and foremost, make sure it’s the right key! While this sounds straightforward, sometimes the simplest solutions slip the mind. Check out South Shore Locksmith’s 5 Cheap and Easy Key Organization Ideas to ensure your key ring remains organized and that you have the correct key every time. If it’s a newly cut key, there’s always the chance that the key may have been poorly cut, which is why it’s important to always use an experienced and trusted locksmith. If this is the case, be sure to report the issue to the company and get a new key made, free of charge.”

  7. 3.SLOW DOOR LOCKS “Slow locks can be a relatively simple fix. This problem most often occurs when dirt or grime has accumulated in your locks over time. If you want attempt the DIY method, first try a slow and controlled inserting of a cotton swab into the lock to attract the dirt. If that doesn’t work, you’ll need to lubricate the lock. Never use oil! Oil and grease can actually clog up the lock and cause further issues. Always use a graphite or silicone spray to lubricate locks. Not familiar with locks or don’t have the proper tools? Call South Shore Locksmith and we’ll have one of our trained professionals get your lock back into tip top shape in no time.”

  8. 4.LOCK SEIZURES “When you’re able to get the key in the lock, but not turn the key, that means your lock has seized up. This is one of the most common key problems we see as professional locksmiths. Again, there are a number of reasons this could happen, but what’s most important is to not attempt to force it. Forcing the key could result in major lock damages or the key breaking off in the lock, which just makes matters worse. You can try using graphite or silicone spray to lubricate the lock, but if that doesn’t work, it’s time to call in our South Shore Locksmith experts so as to avoid causing any more damage.”

  9. 5.DOOR WON‘T LATCH “Often a door wont latch simply because the latch bolt on the door isn’t aligned properly with the strike plate on the doorjamb. Repairs could be as simple as making a few minor latch adjustments or as complex as completely repositioning the door. With over 40 years of experience, our South Shore Locksmiths will always offer you the best solutions at the most affordable price.”
