Just what is e-Learning? • Learning-whether it is “traditional” or e-learning-occurs through many combinations and permutations of • distribution methods (how the content is delivered), • presentation methods (how the content is formatted), and • instructional methods (how the content is taught). • e-learning is defined broadly as “anything delivered, enabled, or mediated by electronic technology for the explicit purposes of learning.”

  4. Blended Training – the model Blended training is the combination of complementary training methods • Traditional (in-the-classroom) training • Distance training (e-Learning) • Synchronous • Asynchronous

Sunchronous Distance Learning • Training from a distance through interactive, collaborative virtual classrooms • Interactive sessions, chat rooms for trainees to freely exchange questions, ideas and discuss complex issues among themselves and with the instructors • Live, interactive evaluation of all parameters of the training process

  6. Asynchronous Distance Learning • Self-learning material (electronic courses, examples, user manuals, exercises) • Collaborative tools for participation in discussion groups, forums and communication with other participants in the learning process

  7. Asynchronous Distance Learning • Use email or discussion groups to answer questions • Use simulations for practice • Allow self-evaluation and 360° learning assessment
