  1. Planets

  2. Do Now 3/29/13 • The type of plate boundary in which the plates move away from each other. (Mid-Ocean ridge) • Base of the continental slope that is made of large piles of sediment. • What causes changes in weather? • The moon phase in which a small part of the right side of the moon is dark. The light is growing smaller.

  3. 1. What are the characteristics of the inner planets? Inner planets: -small -rocky -dense -orbits are close together -called terrestrial planets

  4. 2. What are the characteristics of the outer planets? Outer Planets -Large -Made of gas -All have rings -Orbits are farther apart -Called the GAS GIANTS

  5. 3. What separates the inner and outer planets? • The Asteroid Belt separates the inner planets from the outer planets.

  6. What is the order of the planets from the sun? • My >>> Mercury • Very >>> Venus • Excited >>> Earth • Mother >>> Mars • Just >>> Jupiter • Served >>> Saturn • Us >>> Uranus • Nachos >>> Neptune

  7. 4. What are the characteristics of the 8 Planets?

  8. Mercury Distance From Sun: 57 Million km Rotation: 58 days Revolution: 88 days Gravity: 38% of Earth’s Atmosphere: None (Not enough gravity)

  9. Venus Distance From Sun: 107 Million km Rotation: 243 days Revolution: 225 days Gravity: 90% of Earth’s Atmosphere: Very Active Earth’s Evil Twin

  10. Earth Distance From Sun:150 million km Rotation: 24 hours Revolution: 365 ¼ days Only planet that supports life. Where we live!

  11. Mars Distance From Sun:229 million km Rotation: 24 hours 37 minutes Revolution:687 days Gravity: 38% of Earth’s Red Planet Water at the Poles

  12. Jupiter Distance From Sun:777 million km Rotation: 9 hours 55 minutes Revolution: 11 years, 313 days Gravity: 250% of Earth’s Stormy Atmosphere Separated from Mars by asteroid belt.

  13. Saturn Distance From Sun: 1,429 million km Rotation: 10 hours 13 minutes Revolution: 29 years, 155 days Gravity: 108% Earth’s Saturn is still forming.

  14. Uranus Distance From Sun: 2871 million km Rotation: 17 hours 14 minutes Revolution: 83 years, 274 days Gravity: 91% of Earths Spins on its side. The Small Giant

  15. Neptune Distance From Sun: 4,496 million km Rotation: 16 hours 17 mins Revolution: 163 years, 265 days Gravity: 119% of Earth’s
