Tribal people live in small settlements in the densely forest region with hilly terrain with poor transport facilities. The people are illiterate, practice native medicines. cultural beliefs like doing rituals / poojas under guidance of village godman sacrifice animals for ailments TRIBAL GROUPS : BhagatValmiki, Kondhu, Kondadora and live on forest produce, coffee plantation agriculture. NEEDLESS AVOIDABLE BLINDNESS: Corneal ulcers cataract (Smile / Congenital/ Refractive Errors Children are becoming amblyopic due to untreated congenital cataract / uncorrected refractive errors.

  2. METHODS • COMPREHENSIVE EYE CARE CAMPS, SCHOOL SCREENING : PLANNING : Consultation with officials of Integrated Tribal Developments Agency (ITDA) with participation of local tribal communities. Peoples representatives, tribal community leaders. ( Eye Care Is Every Ones Business) CAMP VENUE : Main sandy village surrounded by cluster of small habitations community hall, school, anganwadi centre. Sandy day when tribal people on hill tops gather to purchase commodities. Wide publicity Given 2 To 3 Days. Prior to Camp. Pre Camp Awareness. Meeting, on day to Camp on Eye Health, Nutrition, Modern Medicine for Eye Aliments, Social Stigmas, Superstition. PRE -CAMP PUBLICITY : SQUARE TYPE ARRANGEMENTS: Registration – V/A , Refraction Slit Lamp, Examination – Direct Ophthalmoscope copy – Dispensing Medicine - ExIt.

OUT COME • CAMPS AT A GLANCE : FROM 5/2008 TO 3/2010 • TOTAL COMPREHENSIVE EYE CARE CAMPS : 77 • TRIBAL WELFARE SCHOOL SCREENED : 28 • OUT PATIENTS TREATED : 11704 • SPECTACLES ISSUED : 5257 • CONTARACT DONE : 288 • REFERRALS : 28 • REFRACTIVE ERRORS : Good at work, ,can read news papers • CHILDREN WITH REFRACTIVE ERRORS : Good at Studies Better Relief From Pains No Loss Of Vision. • EYE INFECTION : • CONGEITAL CATARACT : No Escort, Tare Care Of House. • CATARACT IN ELDERLY : No Escort And Independent Living. • CONCLUSION : To Achieve Goals of Vision 2020, Active Eye Care Interventions are Still Needed is Accessible Areas Stong Need for Establishment of Vision Centre At ChintapalliMandal of Paderu Tribal Hills Division of Visakhapatnam District of Andhra pradesh State Of India.
