Through a 10-week summer internship, students:
DOE Pre-Service Internship
At Oak Ridge National Laboratory:
Conducted research at ORNL’s Holifield Radioactive Ion Beam Facility for 3 summers
Overcame an initial fear of nuclear energy
After one year in the program, developed a course in energy and nuclear science for high school students
Incorporated hand-on activities and research into his classroom
Is planning to offer his course through distance learning across Nebraska
Presented at the American Nuclear Society’s Winter Meeting
Was featured in ANS’s Nuclear News
Credits ACTS with increasing his confidence and making him a better teacher AND scientist
