  3. Symptoms of Schizophrenia • Disorganized thinking/cannot filter information. • Disturbed perceptions/delusions (false beliefs) • Inappropriate actions • Inappropriate or missing emotions (Flat Effect) • Auditory hallucinations • Incoherent speech (Clang Effect)

  4. Three Types

  5. Paranoid Schizophrenia • Diagnosed through the presence of numerous and systemized delusions. • Delusions are usually “someone is out to get me” or of grandeur • Auditory and visual hallucinations accompany delusions.

  6. Disorganized/Catatonic Schizophrenia • Variety of bizarre symptoms. • Movement is disordered or waxy flexiblity (holding one position) • Often regress to childlike behaviors. • Neglect themselves… stop bathing, combing their hair, or using the bathroom. • Disorganized speech is apparent.

  7. Undifferentiated • Any one who does not fit into the other categories. • May have delusions or motor disorders, but not to the extent that he or she is considered Paranoid or Catatonic.

  8.
