  2. Get out your homework. Exchange your list with one person. Take 2 minutes each to discuss what you liked or disliked about the other person’s list.

  3. Persuasive Speech #1 (100) pts In this assignment you be delivering your first persuasive speech. It will be your job to attempt to establish a proposition through a series of premises. In other words, select an issue and convince us that your stance on the issue is correct. You may use note cards but may not read from your paper.

  4. What Will I Be Looking For? Is the issue clearly stated? Is the speaker’s position clear? Do they state reasons(premises) for holding this position? Does the speaker use ethos, pathos and logos? Are these premises logical Does the speaker use inductive or deductive arguments? Is the speakers position clear? Does the speaker’s argument contain logical fallacies? Are the speaker’s arguments based on fact, opinion, generalization or suspect sources?

  5. What else? Does the speech last approximately 5 minutes? Does the speaker stand and convey ethos? Do they attempt to make a connection with the audience (eye contact, emotion) Does the speaker read from the paper? Does the speaker seemed prepared or practiced?

  6. You are free to select the issue that is important to you (this time..) But you will be required to find some data to back up your arguments. Part of your grade will be based on how you listen to other people’s presentations.

  7. Persuasive speeches will begin on Monday, October 8. You will sign up for a day and a specific spot. EVERYONE will give their speech. If you are not prepared on the day of your speech REGARDLESS OF EXCUSE, your grade on the project will be reduced by 50%.
