Composition of Credit Hours Semester hours required for graduation (RN-BSN program requires 124) 30 SH of upper-division Nursing courses are delivered in the Appalachian RN-BSN program 64 semester hours of lower- division coursework are transferred into the program: RN-BSN Required Core: 44 shNursing Cognate Courses: 18 sh (Some Cognate courses may also count as part of the Required Core) Elective Credits: to reach 64 sh of transfer credit 30 SH of Appalachian credit will be awarded upon successful completion of the third term of the program for prior learning and clinical competencies DISTANCE EDUCATION

Program of Study • Upper-division Nursing coursework required for the major will be delivered to the cohort by Appalachian. • Lower-division coursework (Required Core, cognate, elective courses) transfers from a community college or other accredited institution. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain lower division coursework required for the BSN degree, and complete it before the last term of the program. • View your Program of Studyhere. Courses for the Major • NUR 3000 Nursing Informatics (3 sh) • NUR 3011 Concepts of Professional Nursing (4 sh) • NUR 3021 Health Assessment (4 sh) • NUR 3031 Nursing Care of Older Adults (3 sh) • NUR 4021 Nursing Care of Communities (4 sh) • NUR 4029 Nursing Leadership & Management (4 sh) • NUR 4032 Professional Nursing Synthesis CAP (5 sh) • NUR 4033 Nursing Research (3 sh) • Upon successful completion of the third semester of the program, 30 SH of Appalachian credit will be awarded for prior learning and clinical competencies.   7. Elective Course Requirements • The BSN degree requires 124 semester hours. If a student would have fewer than 124 hours on record after completing all other degree requirements (Required Core, cognates, major Nursing courses), the remaining credit hours must be obtained by taking general elective courses that are transferable to Appalachian. (Assumes that 30 sh of Appalachian credit to be awarded is counted toward total semester hours.) • Students should ensure that planned elective courses are transferable to Appalachian before registering for the classes. Transferability may be checked through the Transfer Equivalency Course Search. DISTANCE EDUCATION

Transfer of Lower-division Coursework • It is the student’s responsibility to identify, register for, and complete lower division coursework for the BSN degree before the last term of the program (Required Core, Nursing cognate courses, and any necessary elective credits). • Dual enrollment at Appalachian and a NC community college or other accredited institution is allowed during the first two terms of the RN-BSN program. Students who take a combination of community college and Appalachian State University courses in the same semester and/or summer term may be eligible to apply for financial aid through the Appalachian Learning Alliance Consortium Agreement. • A grade of “C” (2.0) or higher must be maintained on all coursework to be considered for transfer to Appalachian. A course with a grade of C minus is not transferable. • Official transcripts of transfer work completed should be sent to the Office of Transfer Articulation at the end of each semester DISTANCE EDUCATION

Transfer/Lower-division Coursework Continued • Official transcripts of transfer coursework that was in progress and completed before enrolling at Appalachian (for example, Spring and Summer terms before the program began in Fall Semester) must be submitted to: • Office of Admissions • Appalachian State University • ASU Box 32004 Boone, NC 28608-2004 • Official transcripts of transfer coursework work completed after enrolling at Appalachian (Fall Semester onward) must submitted at the end of each semester to: • Office of Transfer Articulation • 134 John Thomas Building • ASU BOX 32166 Boone, NC 28608 DISTANCE EDUCATION

Expectations of Students • Should pursue this program withProfessionalism • Are responsible for meeting program requirements on time. • Should review information and take appropriate actions on time. • Must follow the University Code of Student Conduct & Code of Academic Integrity • Should notify the program manager and academic advisor of any changes regarding courses, registration, or status with the cohort. Delivery of Instruction • Courses will be offered only ONCE to each cohort; there is a precise schedule for delivery of Nursing courses, and students must take courses as they are made available. (For any Nursing courses not satisfactorily completed, consult your academic advisor) • Follow Appalachian’s academic calendar, and any specific instructions provided by your professor • Follow syllabus for course structure/time frame DISTANCE EDUCATION

Progression through the RN-BSN Program • Academic/Progression Policies maybe viewed in the Undergraduate Health Sciences Bulletin • Note: The RN-BSN program offers 30 sh of coursework, and students are not eligible for graduation with honors – a minimum of 48 sh is required.
