  1. Welcome, Poets! Have you turned in your poem inspired by “Cody”? Have you turned in your short story? Have you given your presentation? Have you taken the short story unit post-assessment? What are we doing today? 1st: Today’s Student Poetry Presentation 2nd: What is a catalog poem? 3rd: Using imagery to write our own catalog poems

  2. What is a catalog poem? • Naomi Shihab Nye’s “Daily”—Pg 495 • “A catalog poem is built on a list of images. The repetition of items in the list creates a rolling rhythm when the poem is read aloud.”—Pg 494

  3. Writing our own catalog poems: • Make a graphic organizer for all five senses related to things that make you happy. • At least 3 things for each sense • Select at least eight that you want to include in your poem • At least one from each sense • Write each selected thing as specifically as possible • Example: Not just “coffee” but a “grande, iced, sugar-free, vanilla latte with soy milk from Starbucks” • Now organize them into a poem! • Look back at Nye’s “Daily” for ideas—Pg 495
