Reno-Sparks Indian Colony Healing to Wellness Court A project funded to the Tribal Court by SAMHSA to provide a deferred sentencing program for: • Adult substance abuse treatment services to adults (18 years and older) • Who are Native American • Who have been diagnosed with a substance use disorder • Who are referred by a court, probation officer or diversion program

  2. AIM (plan) • Process improvement project: Reduce Waiting Time for placement in residential treatment.

  3. CHANGE (do) • Participants meeting ASAM criteria for residential treatment would be placed in less than 30 days. • Counselors and treatment facilities improve communication and coordinate efforts for placement. • Counselors and Court staff would coordinate efforts for placement.

  5. NEXT STEPS (act) • RSIC Healing to Wellness Court team adopted the new process. • The new process helped provide direction to include a new position for the Healing to Wellness Court

  6. IMPACT (lessons learned) • The importance of case management was underscored during the trial period. • Communication and coordination of efforts was easier to accomplish with a case manager in charge. • Contribution to efforts could be tracked better. • Team members could be recognized for their part in the successful placement. • Taking time to study the results and process how each member of the team felt about the results or helped to support the decision to request a new position for the Healing to Wellness Court program.
