  1. The Warped & Brilliant Mind of an Unemployed Job Seeker Sylvie Stewart (previous unemployed job seeker) University of Dayton, Assistant Director Career Advising

  2. Key Business Rule: Focus on the Situation (not on the Person) How I would reframe my thoughts… step 1: Who would trade situations with me? step 2: Visualize meeting them step 3: Imagine us discussing our situations step 4: “Stop being a wussy and Get on with it!”

  3. Business Principle #1: Leadership (strategic – solution oriented) • Leadership is not reflected in a title. It is a responsibility, demonstrated every day by the number of decisions/choices we make to move forward towards our goals. • An effective leader sees a vision and develops a mission to make it happen! • What is your vision?

  4. Business Principle #2: Understanding Change Management • Why do people have a hard time with change? • Change = loss (past comfort zone: emotional/physical/financial) • Transitional Stage = the now (where you are currently) • New Beginning = your new start (may not be where you want to start – letting go, trading-off with the past: emotionally/physically/financially)

  5. Change Management Interview Questions • Past: What type of skills did you learn? • What did you like about your past job? • What part of the job did you not like? • Present: What have you been doing during your employment gap? • How have you remained competitive? • How have you served? • Future: What do you know about the company? Why do you want to work here?

  6. Business Principle #3: Marketing is your Mission • Place • Product • Promotion • Price *Personality Assessments

  7. Business Principle #4: Accountability is your Promise to Add Value • Performance/Perseverance • Passion • Positive Attitude "We had to learn ourselves and furthermore, we had to teach the despairing men, that it did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us.  We needed to stop asking the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life - daily and hourly.  Our answer must consist, not in talk and meditation but in right action and right conduct."  Viktor Frankl
