1. Institution – Horror Films Naila Ahmad Horror

2. 20th century fox • Established in 1935 it is one of the 6 big film studios in the USA. • Films created include Star Wars and Avatar • 20th Century Fox tend to produce Comedy/Fantasy movies more than horror. • They would generally tend to distribute horror films rather than produce them • I need to consider 20th Century Fox as a potential institution to produce my horror film • I would most likely get 20th Century Fox to distribute my film rather than produce it as that is what they do best

3. Warner Bro’s • Warner Bros is a film studio which was established in 1923 with its headquarters in California and New York • Popular films produced include Batman The Dark Knight and Harry Potter • Genres produced include Comedy, Action, Romance, Fantasy and Horror • Warner Bros target a wide range of audiences and a variety of genres • To consider Warner Bros as a producer of my Horror film would be wise due to the fact that they have had a number of successful horror hits • They tend to not only produce but distribute successful box office movies such as Friday the 13th and The Wicker Man • Overall Warner Bros is a more attractive producer and distributer than 20th Century Fox as it attracts a wider audience and has successfully done so in the past

4. Universal Pictures • Founded in 1912 it is one of the oldest film studios in USA • The target genre is generally in the direction of Drama, Romance and Adventure • Popular titles include The Bourne Ultimatum, Brokeback Mountain, Atonement and King Kong • Horror films produced by Universal Pictures include Dracula and Drag Me To Hell • As they do not focus on horror in general this would not be an ideal institute for me to consider • 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros are more promising in both the distribution and the production of my horror movie

5. Lionsgate • Lionsgate was founded in 1997 in Vancouver, Canada • Known to be the most commercially successful independent film and television distribution company in North America • Popular films include Kick Ass, Rambo and The Bank Job • Majority of the films produced fall into the Drama, Action and Thriller genres • More recently the have created horror films which have been extremely successful such as the Saw sequel and The Last Exorcism • Lionsgate has only created horror films in the last few years which have been successful • It may not be a suitable producer or distributor as it has only just begun to produce horror based films

6. Hammer Films • Founded in 1934 in London, UK • Known for producing Horror, Sci-Fi, Thrillers and Comedies • Popular films produced include Dracula, The Mummy and The Phantom of the Opera • Hammer Films is a significantly smaller company than Warner Bros and 20th Century Fox • Main genre produced is Horror • I believe Hammer Films would definitely be the best producer and distributor of my Horror film • Firstly it has a high focus on the Horror genre and secondly it is a smaller company and would be cheaper to produce the film • Hammer Films knows all about horror and has created some classics in the past so they know exactly what ingredients are required to create a fantastic horror film
