  2. How can we harness the crowd to produce creative ideas?

  3. Evolutionary Computation

  6. The Sequential Combination System

  7. The Sequential Combination System

  8. Creativity Creativity involves the production of novel and useful products. Originality 0 Practicality

  9. The Measurement of Creativity Only ideas with both practicality and originality scores exceeding certain numbers are considered to be creative (Finke et al. 1996) Originality Creative ideas 0 Practicality

  10. Study 1

  11. Chair Design

  12. Ideas improved through evolution

  13. Study 2

  14. Alarm Clock Design

  15. Alarm Clock Design

  16. Evolutionary process led to more creativeideas

  17. Ideas improved through evolution

  18. In my design I combined key elements from both previous designs such as the triangle shape and digital calendar included on the first design as well as having the volume and alarm set functions on the side of the clock. In my design, I also have a ring that you pull on the top of the clock that turns the alarm on and off which is shown in the second design. This clock also has an am/fm radio and a snooze button. It is also in a very stylish pyramid shape and has a sun for the speakers. The volume is controlled by a knob and not buttons and the time can be set using minute/hour combinations. There is also a digital time/date clock in the bottom left hand corner of the face of the alarm clock. The Design Judged Most Creative (Practicality Score 6.2, Originality Score 6.0)

  19. Conclusion The sequential combination system can generate creative ideas

  20. Future Research What domains does the crowd idea generation system work? The investigation of the evolutionary process
