  1. Learn more about gastroenterology

  2. The stomach, small intestine, colon, and rectum, as well as the pancreas, gallbladder, bile ducts, and liver, are all studied in gastroenterology. It entails a thorough understanding of the gastrointestinal organs' normal function (physiology), which includes material movement through the stomach and intestine (motility), digestion and absorption of nutrients into the body, waste removal from the system, and the liver's role as a digestive organ.

  3. Colon polyps and cancer, hepatitis, gastroesophageal reflux disease (heartburn), peptic ulcer disease, colitis, gallbladder and biliary tract disease, nutritional issues, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and pancreatitis are all included.

  4. Endoscopy (upper endoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, and colonoscopy) is also taught to gastroenterologists by qualified educators. Endoscopy is a procedure that involves viewing the inside of the intestine using narrow, flexible illuminated tubes with built-in video cameras. This specialized training involves a thorough examination of how and when to do endoscopy, the best ways for safely and successfully completing these tests, and the use of sedative drugs to ensure the comfort and safety of patients.

  5. Advanced endoscopic treatments including as polypectomy (removal of colon polyps), esophageal and intestinal dilatation (stretching of narrowed regions), and hemostasis are also taught to gastroenterology residents (injection or cautery to stop bleeding).

  6. Importantly, Gastroenterologists learn how to interpret the findings and biopsy results of these studies in order to make appropriate treatment and/or cancer prevention recommendations. Endoscopic biliary examination (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography or ERCP), tumor removal without surgery (endoscopic mucosal resection or EMR), placement of internal drainage tubes (stents), and endoscopic ultrasound are some of the advanced procedures that Gastroenterologists are trained in (EUS). This gives them the skills they need to remove bile duct stones without surgery, examine and treat gastrointestinal and liver cancers, and offer minimally invasive alternatives to surgery for some patients.

  7. What Is a Gastroenterologist and What Do They Do? Internists are gastroenterologists (doctors trained in internal medicine). Following medical school, they may complete up to six years of specialized training. These specialists specialize on illnesses of the esophagus, stomach, gallbladder, pancreas, liver, intestines, colon, and rectum, among other organs.

  8. If you stay in Patna, your initial appointment with your gastroenterologist or gastrologist in Patna would most likely take 30-60 minutes if you stay in Patna. They'll inquire about your symptoms, medical history, and previous therapies. Other visits might be briefer.
