It’s a law that requires California community colleges to • maximize the probability that a student will • enter and complete transfer-level coursework in English and math • within a one year timeframe. English/Math Implementation: Fall 2019 * ESL Implementation: Fall 2020

  7. VC English: Fall 2019 For English placement, no test is administered. Placement into Transfer for All Students* Built-In Academic Support for All Students: • 4-unit course combining lecture/lab • 5.5 total contact hours each week • 3.5 classroom hours + 2 computer lab hours = English V01A English Composition 4 units 5.5 hours per week Strongly recommended for students with HS GPA < • Choose a fully face-to-face section of English 1A • Enroll in a student success course of your choice *Students who completed four years at a U.S. high school

AB 705: Equity Impact • All Boats Rise: When colleges broaden access to transfer-level courses through placement changes and corequisite models, all racial/ethnic groups have much higher completion rates. • Equity gaps can also shrink between groups (but they don’t always) • Gaps will remain that require our ongoing attention.

  16. Equity Plan Update • Initially planned for January, a “final” set of data was released by the CCCCO on April 5. • Since then, there have been data corrections made on April 10, April 18, and May 3. • The interim president convened a multi-disciplinary task force to draft an equity plan. • The task force met four times on March 27, April 17, April 24 and May 16. • A final draft of the equity plan was sent to the Senate Presidents and ASVC on May 6, 2019. • Unfortunately, due to the tight timeline, there was insufficient time to fully engage the faculty and staff in developing relevant activities and strategies to close equity gaps. • VC submitted, pending signatures, to the CCCCO on June 20, 2019. • VC asked for an extension from the state until September 30, 2019 so that the senates could review and potentially sign before it goes to the Board of Trustees on September 10th.
