  37. On-Site Consultations The OSHA On-site Consultation program operates in all 50 states and is a free service to help businesses with 250 or fewer employees. Though principally funded through grants from Federal OSHA, On-Site Consultation is operated by each state and maintains confidentiality from State or Federal OSHA enforcement. In Texas, this program is called OSHCON, and is administered by the Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers’ Compensation, and is housed within Workplace Safety Programs.

  38. OSHCON performs approximately 2950 safety and health consultations annually in Texas. We have 28 Consultants in 15 cities throughout Texas. Consultation activities include physical inspections to identify hazards and/or OSHA violations, review of written programs and recordkeeping, noise monitoring, air sampling and technical updates on OSHA Standards.   39. Video Resources Our Audiovisual Resource Library has the largest free safety video rental library in the United States. Employers pay only return mail and insurance. 1453 Spanish Safety DVD’s out of 4151 total (35%) 628 Spanish Safety VHS Tapes out of 2943 total (21%) In FY09, 22,209 employees were trained with Spanish language videos out of 92,378*. www.tdi.state.tx.us/wc/safety/videoresources/avcatalog.html

Safety and Health Publications The OSHCON Safety Publications Resource Library consists of checklists, training programs, fact sheets, sample written programs, Q&A sheets, and “Take 5” safety meeting topics. The Publications Library has a total of 293 different publications and 237 (81%) are in Spanish. In FY09, 648,020 Spanish language downloads out of 1,422,188 total (46% downloads were Spanish) www.tdi.state.tx.us/wc/safety/videoresources/index.html

  41. Safety Violations Hotline Safety Violations Hotline Program provides a means for workers to take a proactive role in addressing workplace safety and health issues. The Hot Line is toll-free (1-800-452-9595), operates on a 24-hour basis and is bilingual. Texas employers are required to post notices in English and Spanish informing workers of the existence of the program.

  42. Safety Training Though much of our training courses are in English, we do have courses in Spanish. A free OSHA 10 Hour Construction Safety course in Spanish is Currently available every other month in Austin. Our Bilingual trainer has developed Spanish presentation lesson plans for The OSHA 10 Hour General Industry course and 43 specific safety and health topics covering most construction and general industry standards. Courses are low cost, based on actual travel expenses.

  43. Safety and Health Update Electronic Newsletter Newsletter is automatically e-mailed to subscribers monthly.
