  1. What do you know about soft pastels? What can you tell me?

  2. ALL pupils will drawn out the basic shape of the lolly and applied pastels to it. MOST pupils will have added some areas of tone and detail to their work using pastels. They will have experimented with blending and smudging techniques. SOME pupils will accurately matched the colours on their work to the original image. They will have looked carefully at all the details in their image and included these in their work. Target Work Success Criteria Scarlett, Alex, Willaim, Ben, Luc, Luqmaan, Kundai, Sayuri, Louise, Lottie, Miya and Jack What have you done? Today I am: using soft pastels to create a ice cream pastel piece So that I can: develop my knowledge of soft pastels and the techniques needed to use them I know I’ve got it when: my pastel work is blended and the colours look like the original image. • TASK • 1. Select which image you would like to work with in today lesson. • Those people with target levels of 4a/5c should be attempting the most difficult image! • 2. On one page in your sketchbook lightly draw out the basic shapes in your image. • 3. Start with the lightest colour first and begin to add your pastel to the page. • Remember to only apply a thin layer of pastel so you can blend and smudge your colours together!

  3. Art Critique Move around the room and make at least two comments on different pieces of work. Name of artist: Outline? Tone? Detail? Blending? Smudging? Colour mixing? Colours?
