Strager before you leave today (see instructions) • Access to room 317 by Mountaineer ID card should now work • Printing in room 317 uses Mountaineer ID card

  3. Map cartography • Science and art of making maps • Remember, good maps have: • Visual contrast • Visual hierarchy • Visual balance • Cartography tools in ArcMap: • Layer properties • Legend symbology and classification • Map layouts

  11. Other layout notes • Default page size is 8.5 by 11, can change this under File > Page Setup • Can export maps to graphics formats, including JPEG or PDF • Can have multiple maps (data frames) on the same layout page (inset maps) Three data frames Three maps on layout

Exercise 4 overview • County Deer Statistics Map: • Open blank map, add Counties • Add extra data – table join (County deer harvest) • Work with layer legends • Make a layout using a template • Export to PDF and hand in (by email) • Tucker County Recreation Map • Open MXD • Change layer symbology • Make layout “from scratch” • Export to PDF and hand in (by email)
