  3. Career • Ran from 1957-2008 • Largely responsible for changing the way modern women dress. • Pants day and night • Peacoats and Safari jackets • “Le Smoking” (aka tuxedo jacket) • Trench coats

Inspiration • Sought Inspiration from the streets • Adapted sailor peacoats from army-navy stores into jackets that found their way into fashionable women’s wardrobes. • Glamorous evening clothes adorned with appliques and beadwork inspired by artists • Master colorist (mixed green, blue, rose and yellow in one outfit).

  6. “Le Smoking” Mr. Saint Laurent was also known for putting women into pants. He designed a tuxedo for women in his 1966-67 fall-winter collection

  8. Mondrian Among his greatest successes was his Mondrian collection of 1965, based on the Dutch artist's linear paintings

  9. The Trapeze Mr. Saint Laurent achieved instant fame in 1958 at the age of 21 when he showed his Trapeze collection, his first after the death of Christian Dior.
