Being a Mathematician • Advance mathematical knowledge • Apply theories and techniques to real-life problem • Usually work in other closely related fields • Teaching and/or Research • Work in comfortable office with others Salary: • Low end- $55,680/year • Median- $101,041/year • High end- $152,140/year

  3. High School! • At least at PRE-CALCULUS level before college • As many mathematics classes • Aim for advanced classes • Strong academic skills

  4. COLLEGE TIME! Applied Mathematician • Entry level: Bachelor degree in advanced mathematics • Postgraduate degrees Theoretical Mathematician- Minimum of a PhD • Undergraduate degree in advanced mathematics • Doctoral studies • PhD

  5. Put Your Head in the Game • Training in: Computer Science, Physics, Actuarial Science, Engineering, and Operations Research • Of increasing importance: Computer and Information science, Business and Industrial management, Economics, Statistics, Chemistry, Geology life sciences, and the Behavioral sciences.

  6. Responsibilities • Require a lot of Patience • Work on mathematical proofs • Forming new Ideas and Theories • CREATIVITY and ORIGINALITY • Apply the principle of mathematics to real-life situation

  8. Quan as a mathematician Mathematics- Mathematics is a subject I have been interesting in for quiet some time. Being a mathematician is definitely something I would look farther into. Most theoretical mathematicians also spend most of their time teaching, and I would actually love that. So, I will be doing a little more digging on this career.
