Polymers • Are composed enssentially of plastic and rubber. • Founded in the saddle, grips, tyres, tube tyres, or even in brake shoes. • Used in every kind of bicycling discipline.
Steels. Cromo steel : • Most used steel because of is characteristics (density, weight, price). • Usually used in the most brutal discipline of BMX, like park, dirt. • Founded in frame, fork, and all other parts where rigidity is needed. Reynolds: • Comes from England. • Used in VTT and BMX but less than Cromo. • Only used in the frame.
Steels. Hi-Ten steel : • Founded in bad quality or kid’s bike. • Same used as Cromo Steel, but don’t have the sames mechanicals. • More dense and fragil than Cromo Steel. Titanium : • All new steel in bicycling activities. • Wheight–solidity’s ratio very attracting. • Expensive. • Only used in machined parts of the BMX.
Aluminiums. • Only two differents kind of Aluminiums : 6061 and 7075. • Used in race frames, handlebars, seat post, and in a big majority of other parts in the bicycle. • Founded in every discipline : BMX, racing cycle, VTT.
Composites. Carbon : • All new material for bicycling activities. • Most used in racing cycle. • Very light, but less dense, so more fragile. • Founded in handlebars, forks, brackets or even frams. Kevlar : • Also a new material for this utilisation. • Not very used. • Fabrics like, it is thin but very solide. • Founded in saddles coating, or even in tyres.
