  2. Introduction This web quest is going to strengthen your understanding of addition of fractions with both like and unlike denominators. At then end of each session you will be asked to demonstrate your ability to add fractions with both like and unlike fractions with denominators up to 12. Home Continue

  3. Tasks Become an expert at adding fractions by completing the following tasks: Session One: First: Review addition of fractions. (when the total is equal to or less than one whole) Second: Practice adding fractions with like denominators. Third: Create fractional pizzas using the worksheets. Session Two: First: Continue Practicing adding fractions with like denominators. (the total may be greater than one whole) Second: Complete and turn in a practice worksheet. Third: Play an online pizza activity. Home Continue

  4. Tasks Continued… Session Three: First: Review adding fractions with unlike denominators. Second: Practice adding fractions with unlike denominators. (the total may be less, equal to, or more than one whole) Third: Complete and turn in the assigned fraction worksheet. Session Four: Follow the instructions in the process section to complete the final project. You will be creating the pizza order for a 4th grade pizza party. HAVE FUN! Home Continue

  5. The Process Session One • Do one of more of these things: • Review the process of addition of fractions by reading and practicing the process. Use paper to figure out the 3 practice problems at the end of the lesson. (Make sure to use the page forward button to read the entire lesson). http://www.coolmath4kids.com/fractions/fractions-10-adding-with-like-denominators-01.html • Then, take a quick quiz to see how you are doing: http://www.mrnussbaum.com/fracaddt.htm • When you are ready to show what you know, complete the following: fraction pizza activity with printable pizza worksheet You will need to get fraction circle manipulatives from your teacher. Put it in the math basket). • Now go have some fun adding fractions that equal 1 whole by playing Tony Fraction’s Pizza Shop. http://www.mrnussbaum.com/tonyfraction.htm If you would like to earn extra credit points on this project you can write down the fraction equations for the pizzas you make in one game.   8. Process Continued… Session Four • Your final assignment. Pretend you are in charge of a 4th grade pizza party. Using fraction circle manipulatives,colored pencils, a pizza worksheet, and the pizza topping key, you will need to create an original pizza math problem. The 4th grade will need 8 large pizzas (12 slices per pizza - 96 slices total). Link to all the final project worksheets 1. Use the fraction circles to make your pizzas. (Cover all 8 pizzas with a variety of fraction pieces - DON’T USE YELLOW OR BLUE PIECES). 2. Use colored pencils to make a drawing of your pizzas. (Trace each piece and color in that fractional amount on your worksheeet). 3. Make a math problem for each pizza you created. (This is like the challenge problem you did with the Tony’s Pizza game). 4. Combine all of your totals on the pizza order form. 5. See if you can use this data to create one final math problem that will tell the pizza place your entire order with one equation. (Ex: 8/2 cheese + 3/3 pepperoni + 7/4 sausage + 3/6 onion + 2/8 olive + 6/12 ham = 8 whole pizzas) 6. Turn in your work and give yourself a pat on the back! Home Continue
