  3. Nucleus • The nucleus contains chromosomes. Chromosomes consist of a single molecule of DNA complexed with an equal mass of proteins. Back

  4. Nucleolus Within the nucleus are chromatin and the nucleolus. Chromatin is DNA in its active form. Back

  5. Cell Membrane The cell membrane’s specific proteins and lipid components that enable it to preform its unique roles for that cell organelle. Back

  6. Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) The endoplasmic reticulum is a network of tube shaped membranes that transport materials. There are two types of endoplasmic reticulum: rough, which has many ribosomes on it and smooth with no ribosomes. Back

  7. Cell Wall The cell wall is only in the plant cell. It is a rigid layer on the outside of the cell that gives the plant its shape. Back

  8. Mitochondrion • The mitochondrion is an organelle that is in the cytoplasm of cells that functions in energy. It consist of outer and inner membranes. Back

  9. Cytoplasm Cytoplasm is a jelly like water that all cell organelles are contained in. The cytoplasm consist mostly of water. Back

  10. Chloroplast This is the organelle responsible for photosynthesis. It is very similar to the mitochondrion. It contains outer and inner membrane. Back

  11. Organelle An organelle is anything in a cell. (Ex. mitochondrion, chloroplast) Organelle means little organ. Back

  12. Lysosome Lysosomes are structures that help repair broken cell parts and consumes old worn out parts that are no longer useful. Back

  13. Ribosome Ribosomes produce proteins that the cell needs, using “instructions” from the nucleus. Back

  14. Golgi Bodies An organelle consisting of layers of flattened sacs, that takes up and processes secretory and synthetic products from the endoplasmic reticulum and then either releases the finished products into various parts of the cell cytoplasm or secretes to the outside of the cell. Back

  15. Vacuole A membrane- bound cavity within a cell, often containing a watery liquid or secretion. The vacuole holds materials, both useable and non-useable, for the cell. Back
