    1. Cultural Awareness Day July 2007

    2. We held a Cultural awareness Day where we learnt all about different Countries that we have lived in or visited. We all live in Cheltenham, which is in Great Britain. Great Britain is made up from 4 countries – England, Wales, Scotland and N. Ireland. Some of us were born in England and some were born in other Countries.

    3. Buckingham Palace In Britain we have a Queen who lives in Buckingham Palace. We watched some video which showed her Palace and the Queen riding in one of her horse drawn carriages. As we watched we ate Rich tea biscuits as they are made in Great Britain. We also listened to Holst ‘The planets’, who is a famous composer who was born in Cheltenham and Elgar’s ‘Pomp and Circumstance’ who was a famous composer who lived in Worcester.

    4. Wales is also part of Great Britain and Frances brought in some Welsh dragons.

    5. Josh’s family come from Australia. He is only 5 years old but has already visited Australia 5 times. It takes a whole day in an aeroplane to get there. Josh’s family will be going back to live there in a couple of years time.

    6. Australia is a very hot Country and Josh’s Grandparents have a house with a pool

    7. There are many dangerous animals in Australia and the sharks can swim very close to the beach.

    9. Kangaroos have come into Josh’s garden We all hopped and skipped like a kangaroo as we sang our kangaroo song.

    10. Natan came from Poland last September. He could not speak any English and said that he felt scared when he started school. Now Natan speaks lots of English and can read and write words. He is going back to Poland to live in the next few weeks and he will have to learn to read and write Polish. Natan counted up to 10 for us. Kacper also comes from Poland and is on holiday there visiting family at the moment. Pelle has a Polish daddy.

    11. We ate some Polish banana crisps. “They are a cross between chips and crisps.” “They are crunchy and I love eating crunchy food.” “They taste a bit funny, yknow a bit like banana.”

    12. The next few countries we learnt about were from Europe. Ally’s dress is from Spain and her Grandma brought it back from her holidays. Spanish ladies wear this type of dress when they are dancing the ‘flamenco’

    13. Holly, Kieren and Anya had brought food and objects from France. We tasted chocolate pancakes called crepes and croissants

    14. “The croissants taste like bread – all squidgy and soft.” “The crepes were delicious.” “yummy scrummy in my tummy.”

    15. Anya brought in a model of the Eiffel tower and some Euros, which is money.

    16. Baillie brought in some cakes from Belgium called Frangipans. “They taste of icing” “I like the jam in the middle.” We also tasted Turkish Delight. “It smells nice like sweets.” “It’s too strong with powder around it.”

    17. Jose took us to The Philippines.

    18. Jose has lived in England for a year but began learning some English just before he came. He told us all about the traditional costume of The Philippines and showed us pictures of the flag and some photographs. His mummy also baked a traditional cake and provided us with some food.

    19. We tasted dried mango and some crisps that were very much like wotsits. The special cake had custard on the top with crčme caramel.

    20. Finally, Louis took us to South Africa. He had visited the Country for his Uncle’s wedding.

    21. Louis brought in an enormous egg which was from an ostrich.

    22. Whilst he was in South Africa he visited a Nature Reserve and told us all about the animals he had seen ‘on safari’.

    23. A collection of dolls in traditional costume.
