  2. CONCH! “They obeyed the summons of the conch. Partly because Ralph blew it and he was big enough to link it with the adult world of authority.” “He lifted the conch in an effort to fid the compelling word – for cleverness” (pg. 79). “One has to sit, attracting all eyes to the conch, and drop words like heavily round stones” (pg. 79). “Ralph took the conch from where it lay on the polished seat and held it up to his lips but then hesitated and did nor blow” (pg 99). “I got the conch – conch! Conch! We don’t need the conch anymore.” (pg 101).

  3. Piggy’s Specs “Piggy took off his damaged glasses and cleaned the remaining lens” (pg 59). “Piggy was an outsider, not only by accent, which did not matt, but by fat and ass-mar, and specs, and a certain disinclination for manual labor” (pg 69). “Piggy’s glasses flew off and tinkled on the rocks” (pg 71).

  4. Pig “There were lashings of blood” (pg 69). “Kill the pig… cut her throat, bash her in” (pg 75). The pig symbolizes food… “It’s a pig! We can eat it!”(Pg 83).

  5. Fire “The fire was dead!”(pg 67). “They let the bloody fire go out”(pg 67). “The glow increased and the branch took fire”(pg 96). “The fire is the main thing” (pg 102).

  6. Knife “The bloodied knife in his hand” (pg 71).

  7. Beastie “Just there was a the big rock, and the three stones there, that split tock, ad there beyond was a gap – just there -…” (pg 97).

  8. Parachuter “The figure fell and crumpled among the blue flowers of the mountain-side, but now there was a gentle breeze at this height too and the parachute flopped and banged and pulled”(pg 95).

  9. Waterfall & Scar The waterfall and river it’s viewed as valuable, and safe. “there’s nothing wrong with drinking from the river”(pg 79). “A moment later he was battling (…) with the complex undergrowth that was already engulfing the scar”(pg 67).
