  2. Slavery Divides the Country • Slavery is one of the largest issues in American economy. • South uses Africans in slavery to sell and do farming for them. • In north work is mainly done by their immigrants.

  3. Fredrick Douglas Lived from 1818-1895. He was a slave for 20 years. He tried to stop slavery. He even tried to get rights for women since they didn’t have any rights back them.

  4. Abraham Lincoln • 16th president of America. • One of the first Republican presidents. • First was a lawyer from Illinois. • Didn’t support slavery.

  5. Underground railroad • A secret route that escaped captives. • Used railroad terms as secret codes. • Was illegal.

  6. Confederate • Confederates believe in slavery. • Jefferson Davis was their president. • Their president was a senator.

  8. Civil War • The north thought the south in the civil war to see if slavery is going to be legal in America. • Then America won slavery was illegal.

  9. Kansas Nebraska Act. This act was a very important decision. This act decided Kansas and Nebraska can decide on their own if they permitted to have slavery or not. Click here for video
