What is CPC? • CPC = “Cumulative Points Calculation” • CPC is the method that scores are calculated in figure skating competitions • Rules provide a “measurement” of figure skating achievement • Some competitions still scored with 6.0 (placements only) • Conversion to CPC is ongoing – goal for CPC used at all Jr Bronze + categories in Canada
CPC Language! • BV: Base Value • The value assigned to each element executed in a program – related to the technical difficulty of the element • GOE: Grade of Execution • The value assigned to the quality of execution of the element – regardless of the difficulty • SOV: Scale of Values • The table of values that indicates all Base and GOE Values for every scoring element in figure skating in Canada

CPC Language! • TES: Technical Element Scores • Sum total of all base values and GOEs • PCS: Program Component Scores • 5 scores out of 10 to measure the artistic side of the sport: • Skating Skills • Transitions • Performance • Choreography • Interpretation
CPC Language! • Well Balanced Program • The rules that indicate what elements you are allowed to include in a program • Elements executed that violate these rules will receive no points • Example: 1) Maximum of seven jump elements. a) All single and double jumps permitted except double Axel. b) Must include at least one Axel type jump (waltz or single Axel). c) Maximum three combinations or sequences. Jump combinations may contain no more than two jumps. d) Maximum three different jumps repeated. No jump included more than twice and if a jump is repeated it must be in combination or sequence.
CPC Language! • Levels of Difficulty • For “non-jump” elements, a level of difficulty indicates the increasing difficulty within an element group • Up to Four levels are assigned to these elements – with increasing base values • Levels are introduced starting at Junior Silver levels • Level Features • Level features are those technical details that, when demonstrated, will increase the assigned level of difficulty for the element • Features are announced and communicated annual (first through ISU, then through Members’ Only)

DEDUCTIONS • Deductions applied to total program component score: • falls: -0.5 for every fall with extra deductions for falls that cause interruptions to the program • time violation: -1.0 for every 5 seconds • music violation: -1.0 for vocal music • illegal element: - 2.0 for each illegal element • costume/prop violation: -1.0 per violation

Alternate Delivery • Alternate delivery methods are available • Allow for fewer officials than in the competitive stream • Some events have a “technical judge” instead of a “technical panel” • Roles and responsibilities can be redistributed to allow for “job-sharing”
