  2. What do you already know about the ‘Tour de France’? For example: What is it? When does it take place? How long does it last?

  3. Look at the map showing this year’s route. Do you recognise any of the places on the map?

  4. Le tour de France 2010 • Parcours : Rotterdam à Paris • Dates: le 3 juillet au 25 juillet 2010 • Distance: 3,642 Km. N.B. (longest ‘stage’ =227.5 km)

  5. Un peu d’histoire…… The very first ‘Tour de France’ was in 1903. The 2010 race is the 97th ‘Tour’. If possible look at a photo of the first ‘tour’. What differences do you think you would see if you were watching today? Think about the bikes themselves and the clothes the cyclists would be wearing. How would people have found out about what was happening in the race?

Les quatre maillots… • Le maillot jaune– for the overall winner at start of each day • Le maillot vert– for the highest number of points • Le maillot blanc– for the highest placed young rider – under 25 • Le maillot blanc à pois rouges– for the most climbing points, the ‘King of the Mountains’

  8. Le dernier jour …… On the last day the Tour de France arrives in Paris. The cyclists cycle past two famous monuments. Do you know what they are?
