  1. Connections To Algebra By: Raul Delapaz Zain Hertter

  2. Expression • Collections of numbers and variables • Works through a process

  3. Examples of expression • Ex:) (2 x 2)-(1+3) • 9x+3 • 48z-8 • 10r-9

  4. Order of Operations • A process in witch you use all the mathematical symbols in order to get an answer. • Have to work from left to right • GEMDAS

  5. Groups • First symbol you have to work out in order of operations is groups or parenthesis • Ex:) (25-3)+(83-4)

  6. Exponents • The 2nd process in order of operations is exponents. • Has a base number and power or big number small number • Ex:) 4 to the 3rd power

  7. multiplication • The third step in order of operations is multiplication. You do this process after all the exponents • ex) 2 x 2 or 678 x 1230

  8. Division • This is the fourth step in the order of operations. • If division comes before multiplying from left to right than you do it first • Ex:) 9635/5

  9. Additionandsubtracting • The fifth and sixth step in the order of operations is adding and subtracting • Doesn’t matter witch one comes first • Ex:) 5+5-3

  10. Exponents • An exponent needs two numbers witch are the base number and the power. • Multiply the big number by itself how many times the power says (small number.) • You do not multiply the big number and the little number!! • Ex:) 5^ the ^ is the power or the small number

  11. Functions • A function is something that goes in and only one answer comes out • It has to have a variable. • Domain, range,x,y,input, and output are ways to show function.

  12. Examples of functions
