  4. Celebrating our achievements • Positive environment and approach to partnership working so we have a shared understanding of local priorities -encouraged and achieved through the principles outlined in the Hackney Compact. • £12m+ in grants for the VCS – the Council has maintained its annual grants programme despite significant spending cuts by Central Government, helping us cater for diverse needs. • 200+ organisations have received grant funding, ranging from £750 to £200k. • On average, LBH annual contribution to the VCS in discretionary spend (grants, property subsidy, discretionary rate relief) is £3.5m. • VCS Property Portfolio is in the best condition than it has been for years.

  5. Celebrating our achievements • Excellent infrastructure organisations supporting the sector. • New approach to gathering community insight and to voluntary and community sector networks  so this can inform partnership working and priorities. • Recent launch of Hackney Giving led by Hackney CVS and partners as a credible and innovative approach to local fundraising. • Interlink PQASSO Level 3 Award - first in the country and Interlink were presented with their award by the Chair of the Charities Commission who said that ‘Interlink demonstrate what it means to be a highly effective charity’ and I would like to commend Interlink once again for their award. • Public Health now within LBH – allows the Council to take a lead in commissioning and forming partnerships that seek to support better health outcomes for local people.

  6. Our focus for the future • supporting a strong and diverse voluntary sector to build its resilience and response to the current economic challenges • reducing dependency on Council funding as a means for organisations to remain sustainable • an increased emphasis on the VCS to secure funding from external sources • positioning the sector to provide more local services on a contractual basis; and • developing social capital.

  7. Working Together Jake Ferguson, Chief Executive Officer Hackney CVS

  8. Working Together Message from Ian Lewis, Assistant Chief Executive Hackney Council

  9. Message from Ian Lewis “I have always been a strong advocate of partnership working, as I truly believe that by working together, we are able to do more to achieve better outcomes for local people. We may have different views and approaches on the best way to get things done, but we all have a shared commitment to improving the lives of some of society’s most vulnerable people. Over the last 10 years, relationships with partners including the voluntary sector, have been transformed and it’s been great to see what has been achieved through partnership working. At times, the Council and the VCS have had to have challenging conversations and will probably continue to do so in future, but the principles in the Hackney Compact have set the environment for open, honest and respectful dialogue which has been instrumental in supporting our work together.”
